White House Backs Rule Change That Will End Food Stamps For 3 Million Americans

In another example of the Trump Administration using the bureaucracy to circumvent intransigent House Democrats, the Department of Agriculture is taking steps to cut food stamp benefits for 3 million Americans by limiting a state's ability to automatically enroll residents who also receive welfare benefits.

Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said the states "have misused this flexibility," Bloomberg reports.

"We are changing the rules, preventing abuse of a critical safety net system, so those who need food assistance the most are the only ones who receive it," Perdue added.
In a potential complication, the Department of Agriculture has proposed this rule change just as the Trump Administration is touting a deal with Congressional Democrats to lift spending caps as part of a compromise to raise the Debt Ceiling.

Hopefully, this will bring the price of crab meat and lobster down and the demand slows.

Nothing worse than being in the checkout lane when the barely speaking English in front of you buy all the groceries with an EBT card.
I almost feel like my pocket just got picked.
Thank you dumbocrats.

It's about time they stopped the EBTers from buying a $200.00 bushel of crabs and only paying the $1.00 to have them steamed...........what a bargain..........$200.00 worth of crabs for a mere $1.00. See ya at Skipjacks and the others.

Welfare was meant to help the unfortunate for a short period of time (those who lost their jobs due to no fault of their own, etc) I moved to DC 50 years ago from a small town in PA where there was no job opportunities - nothing. Gov't gave me enough ONE TIME only money to get to work by bus, help my 3 roommates pay rent on an apartment and share in buying food. Believe it was for a month until I got my first paycheck Not looking for any response here just want to point out that the System was meant to help. Unfortunately as you know it is now out of control. I resent see grocery carts overflowing knowing full well that these individuals don't get out bed until they feel like it. Lazy individuals who feel it is their entitlement. I have done very well in my career and retired thanks to the System that once worked. Glad to see some reform.

The problem here is more than limiting food stamps. They want to raise the debt ceiling to spend more money when they should be making more cuts. We cannot afford more debt in this country. Start with eliminating fraud in social programs like supporting ILLEGAL immigrants. And then stop subsidizing big corporations. If they cannot run their businesses to make profits they should close down or get smarter people to run them. Government has simply become too big and too involved in areas they should not be involved in.

The number should be even higher it should be based case by case and stronger, longer background checks, like previous records on residences they have lived in. Number of children actually residing with parents, and real records of work, and income. I used to review patients for medical write offs, fill out sheets on total income per house, records and receipts for heat, housing, food, etc. weigh the incoming $ with the expenditures. It can be done, if requirements not met no welfare.

But look at WHO IS WORKING IN THE WELFARE OFFICES.
