Republican governor of Maryland says he'd REJECT an NRA endorsement

Maryland's Republican governor told a group of students from a school where a teen fatally shot his ex-girlfriend and then himself that he'd reject a National Rifle Association endorsement if it were offered.

Gov. Larry Hogan made the statement while meeting with students on Thursday, sharing a photo tagged as having been taken in Annapolis.

The students met with Hogan following the March 20 attack against their fellow classmate, Jaelynn Willey, 16, who died two days after being shot in the head by 17-year-old Austin Wyatt Rollins, who later took his own life.

The bullet that Rollins fired at Willey, which eventually killed her, also struck Desmond Barnes, 14, in the leg.

The NRA endorsed Hogan in 2014 and he's now seeking a second term.

Disappointing, but he's still light years better than Ben Jealous. I hope and suspect he said this to court centerist democrats.

I thought at first he be good for our state and I did vote for him but if I had it to do over again I never would have he’s nothing but a Democrat And to make matters worse all he does is lie he’s not done one thing for the Waterman or the farmers like he lied and said we make up and majority of his Maryland and he has the nerve to come down on the Eastern shore and act like he’s somebody special I can’t stand him that and I hate a liar I’ll bring in Jesus or Mickey Mouse on the ballot before I let anyone else have a chance to become governor of my state he so two-faced it’s not funny. I could go on and on but I don’t feel like rambling and having someone on here get on and bash me because of the way I feel about him. Just goes to show you how much of a liar he is just like making our state reciprocal for the handgun permit’s I don’t understand how you can be permitted and 10 other states to carry a firearm but this one here has to be like New York and California and make it just about impossible for any good hard-working businessman or any law abiding citizen to be able to carry a gun for his protection and for his family’s. just goes to show you how much of a liar he is just like making our state reciprocal for the handgun permit I don’t understand how you can be permitted and 10 other states to carry a firearm but this one here has to be like New York and California and make it just about impossible for any good hard-working businessman or any law abiding Citizen to be able to carry a gun for his protection and for his family’s . I’ll just keep Carrying mine either way. Rather be judged by 12 than carried by six of my close buddies. And when I get in a quart room I’ll look at the 12 and tell them I would take a bullet for you and I would die for you and for your family just like I would for mine and then with the judge in his face or her face and tell them if you were out shopping at the mall or somewhere else I would shoot and try to protect you the cops can’t be everywhere at one time even though you’re ready to have me put underneath the jail and then see how that works out I don’t believe I’d get any time but who knows in this state and all the liberals in it

He has become such a disappointment to me and the voters who helped to elect him. He's turned out to be a true Rino in every sense of the word.
Either case, it's a losing proposition for this state. The sad thing is, we will probably get another Democrat for governor this time until the Republican party can get it's act together.

I understand that Hogan is walking a very thin tightrope. At least he has been able to get a few good things done...

Hogan is disrespecting the nra because he wants to believe that only a very small portion of the voting base are Constitution/2A supporters. He throws these smaller groups under the bus {as with the farmers and watermen} because he and his admin believe the progressive socialist {whom think lying has no backlash} far out number decent people. I hope he gained alot of dem votes because he sure lost many rep supporters.

The good governor has never been with President Donald J. Trump and this just adds insult to Maryland residents. I have supported this guy from the beginning, but gradually keep losing respect for him. He needs to lean to his party sometime. After all, we already have too many numb nuts on the left in Annapolis.
Prayers will continues for him reference his health.

9:18--thank you for not rambling!

Eastern Shore folks need to remember that Maryland is the most Democratic state in the union. That is, per capita, there is a higher percentage of Democrats here than in any other state. Of our 8 congressional districts, only the Shore is represented by a Republican.

Our Republican governor has to work with an overwhelmingly Democratic legislature. To remain in office, he picks his battles. Right or wrong, he has decided that this is not one of them.

A “No” vote for Hogan is as good as a “Yes” vote for Jealous.

Unfortunately our choices in Md. come down to a full or half full bucket of sh!t.

Anonymous said...

Someone told Hogan that he is going to have to decide if he is a Republican, or actually a Democrat for his re-election. He has decided. He is a Democrat, pretending to be a Republican.

If you haters are thinking that Ben Jealous would be a better Govenor than Hogan than by all means vote for him. Rest assured you will be the sorriest ones in long run. Just remember what O'Malley done to Maryland and triple that what Jealous will do. I am voting Hogan all the way.

I am a Conservative that is so sick and tired of voting for the lessor of two Evils. I voted for Hogan once, not sure if my stomach will allow that again in Noverber.

Calling Hogan a good Governor is not my description. He has done nothing about his campaign promises. He has been bullied by the Democrats. He says he was against bills but then signed them into law when he should have vetoed them. Hogan is stealing money for State Employees Retirement Fund with no repayments, Hogan took away health benefits from retired State Employees. I could name several more examples. Hogan just wants his State retirement with guaranteed benefits. Hogan misled us when he was voted in. Hogan Was / is a deceitful liar. When will the Republicans put up a real Republican. Ehrlich was the last one for the Republicans. So you people tell me why Jealous would be any different? Jealous will try to abide by the Democrat creed and attempt to enslave us and we know that. Hogan is a sneaky bastard that is underhandedly doing it claiming to be a Republican.

I hope you never end up in a quart room 9:18! A gallon room is much roomier.

Anonymous said...

Most Dem because of Baltimore City, PG and Montgomery Counties. Red pretty much every where else

Lesser of 2 evils is Hogan. We know him, been able to live with him, he's the only choice! The other entity - NO WAY IN HELL!

Anonymous said...

Hes not perfect but light years better than Ben Jealous. Another hold my nose while I cast my vote election.

Anonymous said...

What's more dangerous, someone you think is an ally but is actually an enemy (Hogan), or someone that you know is the enemy (Jealous)?

"Calling Hogan a good Governor is not my description."
10:46, just an expression good man (or woman).

Only to get re-elected...otherwise a clueless choice.

Governor Hogan has certainly not met the hopes we had that he could reverse the total abyss O'Malley left. As many have noted, he is light years better than Anthony Brown would have been, and he's light years squared better than NAACP's former boss Ben Jealous would be.

Get over it. Hogan is the current last, best chance for Republican leadership and influence in Maryland. Failing to vote for him is politically the equivalent of slicing your wrists.

He has had to walk a very narrow line to get things through the overwhelmingly Socialist Democrat legislature.

It is crucial that in addition to pulling the lever for him that you also vote for Republicans for legislative office. Yes, some of them are less staunch than we'd hope but since you and I didn't run for office this election cycle, they also are our best hope to give the governor some allies in the statehouse.

Make sure you're registered and vote for yourself by voting for the governor's reelection. It really is that simple.

Hey Hogan the state police that protect you what are they carrying ? STRAWS ??

Moderate milk toast or what 10:22 said.

If you think Hogan will will win as governor, you are just kidding yourselves. The next governor will be a Democrat. Hogan has lost his key support among blue collar Democrats and the State employees that work for this state.

Looks like we are going to suffer through another Democratic administration before the republicans get their act back together. I am a registered Republican. I won't be voting for him!

This is part of a coordinated attack on Governor Hogan. He did receive an A- rating from NRA in 2014, but it is politically disadvantageous for him to seek their endorsement this year due to events in MD and the nation. So he hasn't.

The Baltimore Sun, new owner to-be of The Daily Times, and sister publication to the Los Angeles Times has an article today highlighting Jealous' attack on the governor around the topic of the NRA. Link is here: http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/politics/bs-md-jealous-nra-20180723-story.html#

Jealous is a political novice. He is past president of the Baltimore headquartered NAACP where he was paid almost $400K to manage about $35 million of revenue. Despite being located in Charm City any Jealous initiatives to reduce the gun carnage are missing from the record. Talk is cheap.

Governor Hogan is paid $150k to manage $43 billion of revenue. State taxes and spending are too high but that is the fault of the legislature, and part of O'Malley's legacy, because the governor has used the Veto but been overridden in several instances by the runaway legislature.

Imperfect Hogan is by far the better choice. If you loved the presidency between GW Bush and Trump, you'll be ecstatic if Jealous wins. It verges on a civic duty to reelect Gov. Hogan.

And I'm a Democrat who will gladly vote for him, again, because he is the best gov. we have had in recent memory and Jealous is a flaming socialist who is no doubt supported by Jake Day and Liarton.

Dave T: What a joke you really are Larry. You're not capable of getting their endorsement because you have to have a real backbone for that to happen. In fact, I think you could sooner suck a hog through a straw, you buffoon.

Please don't vote for Hogan. We democrats are looking forward to having control again.

What a sad statement of our affairs when THESE TWO are our choices.

Carry a gun whenever you want.

Jury Nullification.

Know about it and USE it.

Use high penetration ammo, too. Just to be sure.

RINO Larry at it again.

First I said I wasn't going to vote for him and I changed my mind and decided we needed to keep a Democrat out of the Big House.

Now I see this. If someone is reading and can get a message to him to change his mind and quit kissing the asses of the Democrats then he is going to lose our votes.

I'm sorry RINO Larry and all your worshipers like Carl Anderton and Mary Beth, but you don't get a free pass just because you are a Republican. You need to quit kissing the asses of the Democrats and start accepting our values.

Yes we voted for Trump and he is our President. You better support him.

Yes we are Eastern Shoremen and we love our guns. You better start supporting our needs or you won't get our votes. We may not vote for Ben Jealous, but we sure as hell wont vote for Larry Hogan or Mary Beth. Anderton and Adams.

By the way, thank you Charles Adams and Johnny Mautz.

So!! It is what it is.

A Hogan no vote for Trump is a now vote against Republicans!

A Hogan no vote for the NRA is a vote against Republicans.

Hogan denouncing a Christian, Judge Roy Moore for an unproven accusation from 40 years ago is a vote against Republicans. And that goes for you to Andy Harris, we haven't forgotten.

Hogan pouring millions in Baltimore and Baltimore City to buy Democrat votes is a vote against Eastern Shore Republicans.

I could go on, but I will save it for later.

I used to enjoy spending time with Larry Hogan when he was in the area and enjoyed getting my picture taken with him. That isn't going to happen anymore and I quit that practice after he had the Taney statue taken down in the middle of the night while the entire General Assembly was in Ocean City for the Maryland Association of Counties Conference. Only a Democrat would do something that sneaky.

*By the way, thank you CHARLES OTTO and Johnny Mautz. RINO Chris Adams didn't read the bill and went along with Mary Beth Carrozza and RINO Carl Anderton.

Some of you people act like Charles Otto is a country hick, but guess what, he is the smartest one out of that bunch and read the bill ahead of time. When Johnny Mautz finally read the bill he owned up to it just like a man should and I respect him for that.

Carl Anderton is blaming his constituents for supporting that Anti-2A bill because "no one called him or texted him to vote against it." I may be wrong but he was elected to go to Annapolis to represent his constituents and not do what he wants to do. It's not up to his constituents to read every bill and to tell "recommend" how he should vote on that bill or any bill. It's up to him as our Rep. to let us know of these anti-Conservative bills going through the Assembly. He failed us just like Mary Beth Corozza and Chris Adams did. Shame on them!

Is it too hard to copy and past who you are talking about or even address it with the time stamp? Not everyone spends their time on their smartphones reading the internet.
