A lawyer for Aaron Hernandez said Thursday that the former NFL player — who committed suicide in prison — had suffered from a “severe” case of the degenerative brain disease CTE.
The attorney said that an autopsy showed that Hernandez, who died at 27 while serving life in prison, had a disease common in players called chronic traumatic encephalopathy.

Yes, and the cumulative damage happens from the time a kid straps on a helmet and gets his first bell-ringing smack to the head.
That explains a lot about the crazy crime he committed - which never made any sense to me at all.
He made the conscious decision to play football, knowing the risks. Everyone out on the field tomorrow in all the games, know the risks, and they keep playing. It's all about money and fame, until it isn't anymore, then the families are crying the blues and contacting lawyers. Regardless, he murdered a man. He knew exactly what he was doing - he just thought he was above the law. Guess now everyone in the NFL can murder someone and blame it on encephalopathy.
He was in the NFL 3 years; likely no way to determine. Greedy family sorry their income stream hung himself.
So Sad. Too bad all these autopsies are being explained away and/or ignored.
