Report: Massive ESPN Layoffs, Contract Buyouts Expected to Hit Over the Next Month

The long-reported layoffs at ESPN will reportedly take place over the next month. That, according to sports media reporter Richard Deitsch of Sports Illustrated.

What hadn’t been rumored or reported, until now, is that ESPN will look to actually buy out some talent currently under contract. That represents a sharp departure from past ESPN policy. The Bristol-based sports giant typically refrains from buyouts, because like many companies they don’t see the sense in paying someone to not work. The decision to depart from that way of doing business suggests that ESPN wants to have the layoffs and the massive talent shake-up completed quickly.

According to Richard Deitsch of Sports Illustrated, ESPN has a couple different reasons for why they want those the layoffs to go so quickly:

Sources tell SI.com that ESPN management expects to finish most of its job cuts prior to the company’s upfront presentation for media buyers on May 16 and possibly by May 9, the date of Disney’s second quarter earnings call.

As an avid sports fan I'm not surprised. With the advent of Fox Sports, Comcast Sports Net, and a host of others ESPN has more competition. But that's not the only reason they are in trouble. Listen to the opinions of a lot of their writers. They are all becoming mouth pieces for the liberal agenda. Don't preach to me that Colin Kaepernick has the right to disrespect the American Flag. Instead I want to know if Drew Breeze should be on my fantasy team this year. Some of their commentators speak in ebonics. That offends me. Talk to me in proper English. Act like you at least have half an education. Your on TV. Leave the slang for the uneducated athlete that's making millions of dollars.

Look how ESPN covered the Aaron Hernandez suicide today. Poor guy.....He didn't deserve to die this way. "What a tragedy". Not one mention of the fact that he murdered 3 people in cold blood. Not one mention of the victims or their families. And they wonder why business is going down the tubes?

ESPN sucks!! Its nothing but racially motivated garbage these days! And a daily dose of BLM and a little gangster rap

4:01 yes and we pay for it and all the other ESPNs with our cable bill whether we watch it or not. That is how all these athletes are getting these big contracts. Get smart get rid of cable and only pay for what you want to watch.

Sports watchers should be forced to pay for a channel off of regular broadcast stations, I hate my regular programs being interrupted on Sunday!

@3:39 god bless you couldn't have said it any better!! Steven A Smith is a horses ass, PERIOD!! He went to college expanded his vocabulary, half of what he says I'm sure he doesn't even understand but because he's black and he represents the so called plight of black men in America that's what you have to put up with if you want to tune in to ESPNOT!!

S smith does not represent the plight of black men. He's a lib pos who sucks his white espn owners ass for a payday. Most black men have more respect for themselves then ne does.
