Yes. I pick it up and it goes right in the trash. Waste of paper and waste of my time. Especially that ad rag Wicomico WEAKly.

Yes. Free propaganda needs to stop being littered on the streets. They can't even give it away. They must have studies that say they delivered this many papers everyday free or not. Just to seem like business is booming. Lol

Come on down to Nanticoke area , they are everywhere , in the streets ,all over lawns at unoccupied dwellings , in the bike lane , in the woods , it's sickening .

Anonymous said...

They're not free. Someone is paying for them

I like the paper , but I see 4 are against it. Actually have never seen one near my lawn. I pick the Independence and Salisbury at Grocery store weekly. Seems the solution is to no longer throw them in yards -just place only in stores.

Been having to remove from my property for years. Now I am having to remove it with a grabber due to being unable to bent over. No consideration at all for us aged folks. By the time I get to it, its nasty and soaked. Please do away with this unwanted service, I'm worn out from calling to deaf ears to have it stopped. Very rude in my humble opinion.

I look at it as throwing a newspaper and my yard is the same as throwing an empty McDonald's bag to me it's all littering.

Anonymous said...

Sure do. It goes right in the trash.

yes

Absolutely tired of them trashing up my neighborhood. They are there for 5 or 6 days before they are all picked up. Nobody "reads" them. They all go to the trash.

Mayor and City Council, stop ignoring the problem and get a grip!

Anonymous said...

Yes. For 2 reasons: first, they're litter and are worse than cigarette butts. Second, I travel a lot and -when the paper actually ends up near my driveway, having it sit there for a week or 2 tells potential burglars that we're not home.

no more throwing in yards. free in stores to pick up if you want.

Pick them up and dump at the newspaper office. Who's with me?

Just another item for recycle bin. But the plastic wrap is great for picking up dog poop !

Leave in stores for people. I get them for the grocery store ads. Some of us can't afford subscriptions

"But we have always done it this way"

I can't imagine how many of these yellow bags full of wet pulp are cleaned out of the sewer grates, pipes and sewer plant filters every year at taxpayer expense.

Great idea! If everyone collected a truck bed full and deposited them back at their doorstep, this would end fast.

If people would pick them up, there wouldn't be a problem. I don't understand how anyone can leave something laying in his driveway for days. On my street, both of the advertising papers are delivered to the driveways.

All down Russell Avenue, the papers were in the street. What kind of people are delivering these papers?

Anonymous said...

People should be provided with easy opt out information on every publication and be able to collect damages if the opt out isn't honored.

Anonymous said...

The best place for the free papers are in local stores for people to take if interested.

8:27 AM Yes ! I have a collection of em for that. The paper is just more landfill waste.

Anonymous said...

lets all pick a day and go dump this garbage in daily times parking lot whos in

Anonymous said...

Yes they are all over the sidewalks, yards, and streets in the Presidents Neighborhood none being opened.

I always wondered how they make money with those free papers. It must be the ads. Seriously, do they get to use them as a write off? Some kind of "public service"? How much money would they save if they just stopped delivering them at all.

Where is Jake the Day on this anyway? Jakie, talk to us

When will the readers of this post realize that it is property owners that are littering the streets with the unwanted advertisements?

Anonymous said...

If you think about it, it's actually a scam to make the city money. Knowing it can't be put in the mailbox because technically, that's illegal, free papers get dumped in someone's yard/driveway. Homeowner/renter (more like it) ignores them. City official comes by and deposits a fine citation on the person's door.

One greasy paw greases the others. Ain't life grand?

they need to stop throwing trash along our streets that's littering, we would be charged if we did it. I refuse to pick up either one that's thrown by my house. I could hurt myself bending over or walking in the yard im a senior who does not want that trash in my driveway.

Have you not read some of these comments. Some people are not fortunate enough to walk out and pick up others trash gue to health issues. We would like to reside in our paid for home and not run off to a care facility. What is wrong with living in ones own castle without unwanted intrusion?

Straight to the trash can.

Joe, can you leverage your contacts to tell us who we can contact to make them stop? Instead of us all just complaining...

YES

I noticed today that the papers at several houses were in close proximity to the mailboxes. If you're able-bodied, bend your lazy behind over and pick it up when you get your mail.

That's an understatement. As a former (retired) publisher, I understand that it's important for their business to distribute freely so they can sell advertising against a claimed number of recipients. And there's nothing necessarily wrong with that. But when they throw it on my property carelessly, usually in the end of the driveway, it gets run over or soaked in the rain or both, and it leaves an unwanted mess on my property. I asked the Daily Times to put their "WIcomico Weekly" it in a slot below my mailbox if they wanted to continue counting me as someone who was receiving the publication, but for some reason they can't seem to accomplish that simple task. So I asked them to stop delivering to us at all. They stopped for a while, but now they're throwing it on our driveway again. I feel like it's a trespass. They shouldn't be allowed to throw unwanted material onto my property. It's like someone pulling in and dumping a trash can in my yard. I've contemplated a civil lawsuit but frankly it just doesn't seem worth the trouble. I guess it's how they're continuing to try to sell ads, based on number of copies distributed, sort of they way you note your website page "views" (rather than the number of unique visitors, which is, in my opinion, the meaningful although far lower number).

1:29PM very good. Wish the landfill Would get into some of the unwanted TRASH, and try to save some space on the HILL.
Good Luck

I used to pick it up and carry to my trash. Now i just throw it out in the street. Let the HOA or the County deal with it because calling to ask them not to deliver to you just doesn't work. As far as I'm concerned as soon as you throw that crap in my driveway you're trespassing whether you set foot on my property or not.

I was thinking, how many people have complained to the source of this trash being thrown in our yards? I'll keep picking it up from all my properties and at some point will start billing the source.

Can we also get rid of the ones in ocean pines it is a great advertisement for empty/summer homes!

Anonymous said...

I just pick it up thumb thru it .There is sometimes current event articles and coupons. Does not really bother me to pick it up. I also line the bird cage with them.

Steve said...

Call it what it is; LITTERING. If you want free bird gage liners or crab eating table covers, they are free at the local grocery store by the entrances. Go get them yourself, don't make me have to pick up trash out of my yard so your damned bird has something to crap on.

Littering is subject to fines ranging from $500-$1500 according to posted signs in and around the city and county.

Obey them, or get fined.

And you completely missed the point of this discussion.

Feel like teaming up and following the paper throwers some night around 4am? Collect what they throw and dump it all back on their lawn.
