Deputy Chief Darrin Scott is the 2nd highest ranking fire officer in the department and he is standing very close to the fire in absolutely no fire gear or no protective clothing.
What he is doing is a direct violation of the SFD SOP's and many people have been written up, lost wages and terminated for doing what he is doing.
He is supposed to set the standard for every man and woman on the fire ground. Typical violation where the rules don't apply to everyone. Just the ones they want to get rid of.

The people making the majority of these comments are paid firemen in Salisbury and they don't even live in Salisbury or pay Salisbury City taxes. Most of them don't even pay county taxes but they want the county to pay for their jobs. Sounds fair to me!

Where do you think Darrin Scott had been the night that he and Hoppes illegally evicted the Station 1 volunteers. He drove up on Station 1, City property, drunk on his ass. He was cussing and heckling the Station 1 volunteers. It was recommended to the city police officers to check to make sure he was safe to drive after that and the city cops ignored them and let Scott drive off the property drunk. Good thing he didn't hit a family member of mine when he left there.

Maybe you need to reassess the photo. He is CLEARLY just standing there. If he were walking, his feet would be pointed in the same direction, his left arm would be either forward of or behind his side (as the arm swings while walking) and his TOE would not be on the hose line. He would have either stepped OVER it or used the center of his foot. The toe will cause his foot to slip off the hose when his weight is applied. Please look at the totality of the situation and stop defending people at ALL costs just to kiss up to them.

Just I've been hearing that Rick Hoppes has been contacting the "fire chief's" in the county stations and begging them to not support giving the Station 1 volunteers the fire district outside city limits. I think that is just wrong and proves it is all about saving paid fire jobs. They are some desperate paid firemen. The get county funding, state funding, city funding, federal funding, and revenue for ambulance billing even after the county already pays them to run the ambulance service. Sounds greedy to me!

If Rick Hoppes was smart, he would stop scheming with the county fire chiefs and worry about his own department. That department has been screwed up for many years and has gotten extremely worse under his leadership. Jim Ireton and Jake Day really screwed up hiring this guy to lead the Salisbury Fire Department. When Engine 16 gets there they established Command. Then that idiot at Central told Command "Let me know as soon as possible if this was due to an overdose as soon as possible and we will get SPD enroute."
WTH did he just say?? He just dispatched it as NON-BREATHING subject due heroin overdose?? He got enough information to dispatch a fire truck to a CRIME SCENE, but he did not have enough sense to dispatch the POLICE DEPARTMENT!! What the Hell is going over there at that Wicomico County Department that Bob Culver is responsible for???
How the Hell can you dispatch a fire engine to a crime scene, but not the police department?? It is a damn crime scene, NOT a fire??? Since when is a paid fire crew more important at a crime scene than the police!!! A crime scene that is not contaminated by firemen!!

Central just hit the duty officer tone requesting the SFD duty officer to contact central. The State Police had a head-on car accident on the bypass and needed traffic control. So they ended up dispatching Station 1 which has no traffic control and Station 6 for their traffic control unit. So Truck 1 responds and then the on duty assistant chief sneaks on the call with their $100,000 Assistant Chief's Suburban. So now they have Traffic Control 6, Truck 1 and Assistant Chief 1 on the by-pass directing traffic. That is a lot of damn fire equipment on the Salisbury By-Pass directing traffic.
As if that wasn't enough then the Truck 1 officer requests the traffic control unit from Station 3, Fruitland.
Then MSP requests an ambulance for a female subject complaining of a small laceration. Then Central asks "Command" what he wants to do before he dispatches.(Same Dummy that screwed up on the Heroin Overdose earlier.) Paramedic 1 jumps on the call and "Command" asks for another engine from Parsonsburg because it is now a MVC with injuries. LMAO.
So now they have Truck 1, AC 1, Traffic Control 6, Paramedic 1, Rescue Engine 6 and Traffic Control 3. What a damn Cluster F*** just for traffic control to do the State Police's job.
Is the City of Salisbury going to reimburse the County for the use of Traffic Control 6, Rescue Engine 6 and Traffic Control 3 for the Fire Service Agreement?

If he was injured one of the first questions asked by Workers Comp and MOSH was the firefighter wearing protective gear. The answer would be "No" unless they lied about it.

Hoppes is one of the most hated individuals in the Salisbury Fire Department and it is obvious by the number of negative comments he received. It is also obvious when his rogue paid firemen are allowed to get on here and Facebook an attack brother firefighters. Take Bennett High School for example. Why would you need a 4 station response on a "reported" fire at that facility. That building is well equipped with fire protection that a one engine company response would be all that is necessary for "mop up." The fire would be instantly put out by the sprinkler heads so all the fire department would need to do is mop up the mess from the water.
Any new building is required to have a fire alarm and a sprinkler system as required by the building and fire codes.
With that said actual catastrophic fires are extremely rare. Now all new single family homes in Maryland are required by law to have a sprinkler system.
Also all rental homes are required to have a smoke detector. Remember the fire departments are always preaching smoke detectors save lives.
Fire prevention has put most fire departments out of business and that is why you see fire trucks responding to car accidents and responding on ambulance calls. That is being done because ALL fires are down and they need to respond the fire trucks with the ambulance to justify their existence.
So the bottom line is a fire truck is rarely needed on a reported fire and hardly ever needed on an ambulance call.
So I agree with you. The funding needs to be cut.
ANYONE can point a hose at a fire try going through a 9 month medic course.
There is no reason that the Salisbury Fire Department can't be ran by an all volunteer fire department like it used to be.
Cut out all the fire trucks chasing the ambulance just to pad the call volume.
Cut out all the fire trucks responding on car accidents like it used to be. There is no reason a fire truck has to respond just because an ambulance is requested. The only time the fire truck should respond is if there is a reported accident with entrapment and a rescue response is needed. That's the way it used to be and it should still be like that. Ask most police officers that work the accident investigations. They will tell you that fire trucks get in the way and they don't need to "Command" a car accident.
A day crew at Station 16 and Station 2 is only needed during regular working hours.
Recruit the volunteers and it will work. You can't say they tried because they really didn't. Funny how Kentland and many of the PG County stations are ran by volunteers.
It can be done but Hoppes, Tull, Scott and the Union won't do it because it will cost paid firemen jobs.

Finally someone with a brain. It might take 9 months to be a medic, but it takes 2 years to be a paramedic.

Everyone knows that Justin Byrd has never been a firefighter so why is he deserving of a fire officers position? Notice it is an acting position? This is how Hoppes keeps his thumb on the weak firemen, especially the volunteers.
Justin Byrd works for Bob Culver at the 911 Center, but yet he is the President of the Station 2 Corporation. Hoppes is offering him the proverbial carrot so he doesn't jump ship and join with the Station 1 volunteers. Nice way to control the volunteers. I think it's time for Station 2 and Station 16 volunteers to leave the stronghold grip of the city and become real volunteer stations in the county.
Thinks because he has a high position that he can do whatever he wants. This is the way high ups think. That they are too important for rules and that they are better than the rest of the dept. Someone needs to take him down off his high horse and teach him a lesson.

You are exactly correct. The sad thing is that this clown is to dumb to get a real job or get a promotion in a real job in the real world.
He has to get hired in a small time government job that is racist, hates blacks and women. They also refuse to promote blacks and women. Central alerted Stations 16, 2, 1 and County Station #5 (Hebron) for a reported house fire at 1121 East Church Street near the corner of E. Church and Main Streets. This is near East Salisbury Elementary School.
Why did Central dispatch Station 5 instead of Station 6, Parsonsburg? I would think that Parsonsburg is much closer to that house than Hebron is.

Salisbury is still mad at Parsonsburg because Salisbury got the Airport taken away from them and Parsonsburg responds first due to the airport and does all the events at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center.
By the way is Parsonsburg can come into Salisbury's fire district and take their territory then the Station 1 volunteers can definitely do the same thing.
The Station 1 paid duty crew was just dispatched to Dove Point for an Automatic Fire Alarm.
Truck 1 responded with their crew and now Engine 16 responded with that dummy David Haines.
Why does a business on Mt. Hermon Road need 2 fire engines from Salisbury to respond to a false alarm?
Now that Engine 16 is way over there on Mt. Hermon Road "standing by at the Plug" then who is covering calls in Station 16's fire district over on the West side? I guess it doesn't matter because they are mostly black folks over there and Haines could care less about it.
