WTH!! No driving Fools!! I hope no one got hurt.

Hope all is ok or not seriously injured. With that said, all the disputes with the City concerning SFD makes me ask were they responding to a call or was this a casual drive possibly personal? As a Tax Payer I say if they were not responding to a call in an official capacity then they are liable for all damages incurred with this incident and discipline action taken. If not responding to a call in an official capacity was this misuse of the vehicle for personal usage? Is personal usage charged to the employee or considered a benefit that is taxable income for the employee? Like to hear Hoppes explain if not responding to an incident in official capacity. This is a budgetary expense that should be reviewed. I am sick and tired of seeing SFD equipment riding around sight seeing with them calling it training. This gets worse when SU gets back. Like to see their training manual and read their guidelines.

Good points. From what I understand the Station 1 Volunteers were already on a minor MVC on Rt. 50 West of Hobbs Road. The paid assistant chief was responding, or really sneaking up on them, to that call, but wasn't on the call. They didn't mark up so your question of were they responding in an official capacity? NO!! The paid assistant chiefs do that all the time. They think they can just flip on the lights and sirens and respond to any call without marking up any time they want. Assistant Chief 1 was not dispatched to that minor motor vehicle crash on Rt. 50 and he should not have been responding at a high rate of speed with lights and sirens wailing. Everyone with a brain knows that Rt. 50 and Autumn Grove Road is a bad intersection and should proceed with caution. Apparently this guy thinks he is above the law and caused a serious crash involving 3 automobiles and one of them being a new $100,000 SUV command vehicle. I hope he gets charged and I hope he gets demoted. People like this are dangerous. Now I pray that no one was seriously injured. Now how is Hoppes or Tull going to lie about this one. "Here Mr. Obarsky please go pee in this cup and don't flush the toilet or wash your hands."

That wannabe soldier part-time boy mayor just gave them permission to create another Deputy Chief's position. Now they have 3 (THREE) Deputy Chiefs. They have a volunteer Deputy Chief and 2 paid Deputy Chief. All of those clowns have Chief's cars and neither one of them live in Salisbury. Not 1 of them live in City limits or pays city taxes.

As a matter of fact one of those fire department chiefs cars drives to Delaware every single day of the week and city taxpayers are paying for it.

I just checked their website and saw that they had 10 paid acting Lieutenants?? WTH is going on there. A small town fire department with 10 paid acting Lieutenants. How many paid firemen do they have? Looks like too many chiefs and no Indians.

They have ten acting lieutenants due to the fact that they have to fill an officer spot whenever the actual lieutenants or captains take off. There are approx 70 paid active firemen. Not enough to be honest.

The purpose of insurance is to repair or replace vehicles involved in accidents. So perhaps it will not be as costly to taxpayers as you believe.

Your premise begins w the department's procedures or rules. These are not necessarily above reproach for the thinking man.

Those paid assistant chiefs drive like maniacs all the time. They do nothing but freelance and pick and choose the calls they want to respond on. They can do no wrong because every time they wreck they get a free pass.

They are nothing but paid renegades and they should be stopped. Proves there is poor leadership in that department and city.

What do you have to say about that Richard A. Hoppes, BS?

What do you have to say about that mayor Jake Day?

What do you have to say about that council president Heath?

Let me get this straight. Just because the city of Salisbury has insurance on the vehicles you think that it's Ok for the paid farmin to race up and down the road nearly killing citizens due to negligent driving? You are a special kind of stupid! You must be one of those Hillary voters!

No sir, there is no such thing as an accident. It's called negligence and this Goof's negligence cost the tax payers thousands of dollars because of this individuals serious neglect. He needs to be fired over this because there will be a gross negligence law suit against the city.

So now it is 2:15 AM and the paid Paramedic ambulance crew at Station #1 had to be alerted twice to respond to a medical emergency at Atria. I guess they were getting paid to sleep through a call like Ocean City Paramedics did. If you are going to work 24 hour shifts and get paid to sleep you better damn well wake up when you are supposed to and respond on that emergency medical call.

Anonymous said...

Poor O'Barksy he has been nothing but a burden on the citizens of Salisbury since he has been employed there. A Couple of years ago he was racing to a call that again, he wasn't dispatched to and spun out of control on Naylor Mill Road near the County Sheriff's Office and totalled one of the Ford Crown Vic's. The car had to be towed away and he had to take the pee pee test when you wreck a city vehicle. Thank God he didn't smash into an oncoming car head on and kill them like that clown in Hebron did. He got away with that one as well. Nothing like being total screw ups and getting promoted up the ranks to Assistant Chief. Poor O'Barsky.

WTH is Jake Day going to grow up and do his damned job!

What the heck is going on in the Salisbury Fire Department. There is apparently a lack of leadership and obviously a lack of leadership. It sounds like that department hasn't had true leadership in a long time.

Hoppes is big on his data and statistics that try to make the volunteer response times look bad. Well let's be real and do a fair assessment on paid paramedics that are in house and how many times they have been re-alerted. More times than you can imagine.

It's time for some change. Mayor day, are you listening.

This is by no means even close to being correct. 99% of the time the paid people get re alerted, it's due to central dispatch not acknowledging them when they mark up on the radio. The Chiefs keep their statistics not to alter any times or make anyone look bad, but yet to keep a record of just how much the volunteers fail to get out on their own calls. That's FAIL. Meaning not getting out what so ever for an emergency, some of which even house fires. Oh and then the evil paid people have to go and cover those too. Your argument is ruined pick up possey crowd

They want to divide us all and run out the volunteers to create an all paid fire department. Not all volunteers are dumb and uneducated, but you can be rest assured there are dumb and uneducated paid firemen in the Salisbury Fire Department.

It's time for the Mayor and Council to educate themselves and break up this culture of hatred. These paid guys think they are better than every firefighter, EMT and Paramedic in this county.

Sorry, but it is an "EMT" test. Speaking of not being able to pass any tests your butty Darrin Scott, I mean Deputy Chief Darrin Scott, can't pass any tests either. It took him numerous times to pass every class he ever took and he failed many. As a matter of fact he didn't "pass" the Deputy Chief exam because there wasn't one and Hoppes just promoted him because of the good ole boy system.

This is a good point. Rick Hoppes and John Tull want to keep track of how many times the volunteers have to be re-alerted. Why not keep track of how many of your paid guys on the fire trucks have to be re-alerted every single night when they sleep through calls.

That's right your paid fire crew and ambulance crews get paid to sleep every single night. Our police departments don't sleep while on duty.

I think it's time to change their 24 hour shift schedules and go to 8 hour shift that they had years ago. 8-4, 4-12, 12-8 and no one sleeps. Yep, that's how it should be because our paid crews shouldn't be able to sleep on the job.

Reported House Fire in Salisbury

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

I have a question. Around 1:50am Wicomico Central Alerted Stations 2, 16, 1 and 5(Hebron) for a reported house fire at the corner of Church Street and Truitt Street. Isn't Station 6 Parsonsburg much closer than Hebron?

At 1:58am Station 2 was re-alerted. Command told Central to dispatch a Next Due. A couple of minutes later Central Dispatched Station 3(Fruitland). Isn't Station 6(Parsonsburg) closer than Fruitland?

At 2:01am Command requested Central dispatch a 2nd Alarm. At that time Central dispatched 3, 74 and 6(finally).

At 2:08am Command asked Central the status on responding units. Central advised nothing marked up yet.

Then Central alerted again saying Stations 8, 3, 74 and 6 due(Whatever that means?)

What is the Status on Station 6(Parsonsburg) and why weren't they alerted first and second on this call?

Another question? When did Central start hitting the all call tone for 3 stations and then an outside station for house fires in Salisbury?
