Prince George’s Co. schools latest to close for ‘Day Without a Woman’

WASHINGTON — Prince George’s County Public Schools announced Tuesday evening that it will be closed Wednesday because of the high number of staffers who requested off for the “Day Without a Woman” nationwide protest.

Thousands of staffers requested off for the protest and social media campaign — approximately 1,700 teachers and 30 percent of transportation staff, said Prince George’s County Public Schools Superintendent Kevin Maxwell.

“We cannot transport students and provide safe, productive learning environments without adequate staff. As a result, schools will be closed tomorrow for students,” Maxwell said in an email. “We apologize for the inconvenience this will surely cause to many families.”

Alexandria City Public Schools and Center City Public Charter Schools in D.C. also closed schools Wednesday for the campaign. The cancellations have sent parents scrambling to provide child care.

The female teachers take the day off leaving the school childrens mothers stuck with having to find some one to take care of their kids. How stupid is that?

They get paid because their leave was approved.

Can you imagine if their leave wasn't approved? Oh my!

Sad, sad, sad!! I am beginning think it is time to really find another country or maybe an Island. I want to fight the good fight, but I fear we cannot beat these imbeciles.

Letting the liberals have their way! Don't expect anything from them! This is the reason this country has gone to hell! Thank God we have a President that is trying to save our country!,

Have them bring a doctors note. If they can't provide one, have them reprimanded or suspended. Dock their pay for that day for inconveniencing the students who were there to learn. Interested to see if Wicomico County did the same today.

Poor supervision and management you never approve so much leave that you don't have enough people to do the job typical PG County

I'm with 11:02 am. Look what a burden a small percentage of "women" place on REAL Women who do their jobs AND take care of their children! God bless the women I know who earn their winnings and are successful and happy in their own skin!
