EASTERN SHORE TRAFFIC ALERT: US 50/MD 404 INTERSECTION

EASTERN SHORE TRAFFIC ALERT: US 50/MD 404 INTERSECTION

MD 404 Crossroad Pipe Installation Requires Temporary Lane Closures and Signal Changes

WHAT:

Temporary lane closures/flagging and traffic signal timing changes at the US 50 (Ocean Gateway) and MD 404 (Queen Anne Highway) intersection for installation of MD 404 crossroad pipes just east of US 50 in Queen Anne’s and Talbot counties.  MD 404 traffic will share a single lane with flagging at the work location.  Eastbound MD 404 traffic will be limited to right turns only at the US 50 intersection.  Additional restrictions may be necessary to ensure safety.

WHEN:

Beginning Tuesday, March 28 and continuing up to two weeks as needed to complete the operation.  Work hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weather permitting and may be extended depending on field conditions and scheduling each day.

WHY:

As part of the $160 million MD 404 dualization project, a storm water management pipe must be installed across MD 404 near the US 50 intersection.  This work is too close to the intersection to perform safely with normal intersection operation.  To maintain safety for workers and motorists SHA will manually control intersection signals to keep backups to a minimum and prioritize emergency vehicle access if needed.

IMPACTS:

Motorists should expect major delays when traveling through this intersection from any direction – be alert for lane closures, sudden stops and workers on MD 404.  Plan ahead, allow extra travel time and seek alternate routes if possible.
