Troopers Locate Fugitive Wanted For Kidnapping In Virginia

(PERRYVILLE, MD) – Maryland State Police troopers at the JFK Highway Barrack today arrested a Virginia woman who is wanted for kidnapping in that state after she was stopped on I-95 in Cecil County.

The suspect is identified as Carshena Chieffo, 35, of Buckingham, Virginia. She was charged with being a fugitive from justice and is currently awaiting an extradition hearing.

At about 1:00 a.m. today, the JFK Highway Barrack duty officer received a call from Baltimore County dispatch in reference to a lookout for a blue Nissan pick-up truck with Virginia registration. Baltimore County Police, who were in contact with authorities in Virginia, advised that Chieffo had kidnapped her two children, ages 11 and 16, and was traveling with them northbound on I-95 in the area of the Rt. 22 exit. Chieffo did not have legal custody of her children and had taken them without permission.

Troopers were able to locate and stop the vehicle in the area of northbound I-95 near the 107 mile marker in Cecil County. Chieffo was taken into custody without incident and charged as a fugitive. The two children were in the vehicle and were unharmed.

Troopers are continuing to assist Virginia authorities with their investigation.
