Signs to warn drivers of tough reckless driving penalties in Va.

WASHINGTON — New signs on Interstates 95 and 81 warn drivers that traveling faster than 80 mph in Virginia can carry stiff penalties, including up to a year in jail.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is installing the warning signs on I-95 in the 70 mph zone through Spotsylvania, Caroline and Hanover counties between D.C. and Richmond, and on I-81 as far north as Shenandoah County, west of Front Royal.

The signs are going up in locations that data from the Department of Motor Vehicles show have more crashes than other similar highway stretches or higher proportions of speeding drivers than other stretches.

Thats all it is....money.
I just drove to FLA and back....550 miles on I-95....traffic moving at 85-90 for miles. Traffic moved fine for the most part. Even the cops were going 80+....
The biggest problem wasn't all the cars going 15-20MPH over the limit, it was the dumb aces driving in the left lane at 70 (or less!), thinking it was perfectly fine to do that, hunched over the wheel, never having a clue what the rear view mirror is for, imagining to themselves they were doing a public service making people slow down....
When I got back, it seemed as if all those dumb aces came to Salisbury.

350am - AMEN. Was traveling from OC to Salisbury Friday morning and the trains were flying in the left lane of Route 50. Opposite direction Friday night, same trains flying back. Must watch your review mirror at all times!

That is true. And it is a LIMIT, not a minimum. Surely you have seen signs that state 'slower traffic keep right'. You are also required to keep up with the flow of traffic. You are also required to keep to the right unless overtaking another vehicle and then move back to the right after completion of overtaking. You are also required to NOT impede the flow of traffic.

Unless you are a speed cop it is not your responsibility or right to try to control traffic, impede or inhibit traffic flow, or any action creating a hazard. Most would do better improving and paying attention to their own driving than attempt to alter or control someone else. You only cause more problems.
