(North East, MD) – Maryland State Troopers from the North East Barrack are being commended for their heroic actions after rescuing several elderly residents from a burning apartment complex.
At approximately 11:00 p.m. last night a fire started on the second floor of the Victoria Park Apartments, 520 S. Main Street, North East, MD. The apartment is a 55+ retirement community. Troopers immediately responded to assist the North East Police and North East Fire Department.
Upon arrival, Troopers observed the building ablaze and billowing smoke. Numerous elderly residents were struggling to escape. At great personal risk, and without protective apparel or breathing apparatus, six Maryland State Troopers entered the burning building to search for survivors. They were able to locate five residents who were unable to evacuate and physically carried the five residents to safety before returning to search for more victims. Troopers continued searching the building until they were assured all residents had been evacuated. Members of the North East Fire Department then took over the scene and began fighting the fire.
As a result of their bravery, no lives were lost in the fire and only minor injuries were sustained. Waiting for emergency equipment to arrive may have led to a far more tragic outcome for the elderly residents. All six Maryland State Troopers have been nominated for Life Saving awards for their selfless actions.

Wanna bet that this event gets even one one-thousandth of the media coverage that the death of a law-breaking crack-head running from the police gets?
Truly, these guys are honest-to-god heroes.
Another example of LE doing firefighters job without the gear. Be safe brothers.
Cops need to leave the fire work to firefighters! If a cop gets hurt or disoriented an can't get back out.... that's an immediate death sentence to any people who are trapped! This is because firefighters stop all searches etc when a cop or firefighter is in trouble! All focus goes to them. I applaud the bravery. Cops need to have some danger and heroics in their lives. But seriously officers. You can cause more harm than good!
