BENNER TOWNSHIP - An investigation has been launched into the recent death of a dog used in the Drug Interdiction Unit at SCI Rockview, a Pennsylvania Department of Corrections official said Tuesday.
Susan McNaughton, press secretary for the state DOC, said a 2-year-old yellow Lab named Totti was left in a hot vehicle for more than two hours during a training exercise and died on Thursday.
"When the handler realized this fact, he and others rushed to the vehicle and began emergency care of the dog, including hosing him down and carefully cooling him with ice," McNaughton said in a news release.
"At the time that they did this and at the time they took him to a vet, the dog was conscious. Everyone involved was incredibly and understandably upset and concerned for the dog. Unfortunately, the dog did not survive. This has been very devastating for everyone involved. "

Nothing will happen to cops, remember they are above the laws they enforce... Because leaving dog in a hot car and forgetting it, is not animal cruelty... I mean look, if this doesn't show you they don;t give a damn about you, it should because if they don;t give a crap about their own partners in the form of a dog, what makes you think they give a crap about you or anyone else...
Every canine officer should wear a remote temperature receiver to keep track of the animal's welfare when in the vehicle, one that audibly notifies him or her of the vehicle's internal temperature when it gets to an unsuitable level.
There's really no good excuse for what happened here and elsewhere when working dogs are left in police vehicles, or any vehicle, for that matter.
No excuse for that happening.
Because police agencies are too cheap to buy the alarms, or the remotes.
How do you forget a dog in your car?
His guilt is punishment enough. How could you work in that field knowing that you killed your partner?
He needs to Pay for his next dog HIMSELF--
then let's see if he forgets the dog!
Unbelievable that He Forgot him!! How, as
one person said, do you forget your dog,
your partner ?

Candidate Clint does it.
Yes how do you forget you have your dog in your car! It's called irresponsibility. I feel sorry for the officer because he certainly feels horrible but if you are that scatterbrained you really have no business being a cop.
The dog is a officer of the law. If I accidentally killed a police dog I would go to jail for killing a cop. #Facts Bet he gets off like they always do.
2:39 pointed out the obvious.
"We, the people" would be charged and facing serious jail time if WE killed a police dog, accidentally or not.
But, there ARE two sets of laws.
It's thrown arrogantly in your face at every level of government.
Unbelievably, you can't stop cheering.
How many times has a defendant said "I'm devastated and extremely sorry. My guilt weighs so heavily on me".
Right after that, the judge gives him 15-25.
Keep up the cheering!
While you can....
Your getting your marshal law! Something you wanted for a while. Keep cheering obama lover.
Martial law will only result in the deaths of hundreds, if not thousands, of police and government officials.
It will be around 100 million against about 1-2 million. Do the math.
And further, its "you're", not "your" and it is "martial law" not "marshal".
What happened? You get pregnant and drop out in the 5th grade??
Debate or refute me.
And calling me an obama lover? Apparently, your reading skills are on par with your spelling and grammar.
Keep cheering!
If a criminal kills a K-9 there is a charge. Why is this different? There should be charges.
