RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- A federal appeals court spent more than an hour Wednesday vigorously questioning lawyers about the constitutionality of Maryland's assault weapons ban and whether a judge who upheld it applied the correct legal standard.
Gun rights supporters claim the ban violates the Second Amendment because it applies to firearms that many Maryland residents keep in their homes. The state argues that lawmakers had authority to prohibit the weapons because they are rarely used for self-defense and are disproportionately used in mass shootings and killings of police officers.
The appeals court typically takes several weeks to issue a ruling.
Maryland lawmakers passed the sweeping Firearms Safety Act after the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Connecticut. Gun rights advocates went along with most of the law but challenged the provision banning 45 assault weapons and the 10-round limit on gun magazines

The list is pretty long, but its not infinite. Just something positive there to look forward to in the long slog to regaining our freedom from the bureaucrats and politicians who think THEY dole out freedom in quantities THEY think are sufficient.
Reality update -- they have NOTHING to do with our freedoms, except to protect and preserve them.

If the shooter at Sandy Hook had been in a mental institution where he belonged, there would've never been a shooting in the first place. Guns don't kill people, mindless idiots pulling the triggers kill people. Legislators are wasting their time. Why not argue vigorously for the reinstatement of mental institutions that are equipped to handle mentally ill people instead of trying to thwart the Second Amendment under the guise of social justice. All you're doing is pissing people off even more than they already are.
If the general population would WAKE UP and realize the explicit correlation between the Clinton policy to close Mental Institutions and the rise in gun shootings, they'd see there is a HUGE connection between the two. So it goes to show, you reopen those institutions and start re-incarcerating people who should not be in the population because they are a danger to society - not the instrument they use to inflict the danger. The people of late have been using knives (MA) so what are you going to do next, outlaw knives, too?

I think Douglas MacArthur said it best when he stated the role of politicians is to run the government and safeguard the people, NOT change the nation. I am so sick and tired of a group of idiots running around our government buildings deeming themselves "great public servants" when in fact they are far from it. Instead they look out for their own special interests and the hell with the people. I'd like to know how many politicians have considered people's right to protect themselves. If you've ever been awakened in the middle of the night because of intruders on your property, you know what I mean.
