JESSUP COMPANY TO APPEAR ON SHARK TANK

A Maryland small business is about to get some serious national exposure.

Hungry Harvest, a Jessup-based company that repurposes surplus produce, will appear on ABC’s reality show Shark Tank airing on January 8, 2016 at 9pm EST. Hungry Harvest was founded in 2014 by Evan Lutz, a graduate of the University of Maryland, after he learned how much produce was being discarded because it wasn’t aesthetically appealing. The company offers a subscription service; for a monthly fee, Hungry Harvest will deliver a selection of produce directly to your door on a weekly basis.

Shark Tank is a reality show with an entrepreneurial twist. A panel of “sharks” – also known as the investors – considers potential businesses to invest in as they are presented. Hungry Harvest will be the first Maryland-based company to appear on Shark Tank, and Lutz has high hopes for success.

“Having the opportunity to appear on Shark Tank is a dream come true,” said Lutz. “I believe that Shark Tank is the vehicle to help propel our local, mission-driven business to scale across the country.”

During the episode there will be an opportunity for local viewers to participate in an episode-related trivia quiz on social media with the opportunity to win six months’ worth of produce. Learn more on Hungry Harvest’s website.
