Out of nowhere, WBOC all of a sudden has decided to hold their Town Hall Meetings. Funny how we did an article last week HERE talking about how big a flop their meetings had been because nothing changed.
I'll tell you what. Rather then WBOC asking you what you'd like to see changed and or story ideas, how about we do so right here on Salisbury News. WBOC will only broadcast the ideas THEY want you to see or hear, so let's let them know flat out what you think about their station.
Once everyone states what they'd like to see changed, let's see if WBOC will actually make such changes or will they continue to prove they're just blowing smoke you know where.

I would like to see Less Delaware News and more Maryland news. Especially items dealing with the state that affect Marylander's on the Eastern Side of the Chesapeake.
The station is located in Salisbury, but there is little Maryland or Virginia in the Delmarva report! I see little to no advertising from businesses in Maryland or even the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
As a state employee, I have to go to either WJZ baltimore or WBAL to find out if there are any closings due to the weather. WBOC or WMDT doesn't or won't let us know if Liberal Leave is in effect for closings.
News from Annapolis is rarely discussed. Does Tyle Butler even drive anywhere else than Cambridge when reporting from the "midshore" ? What about all the towns north and south of the "midshore"?
I would just like to see a well balance blend of Maryland, Delaware and Virginia news if they truly are the "Delmarva report"!!!!! The news also seems to be reported to us as if we are some kind of elementary school kids! When comparing how news is reported from other areas like Baltimore or Washington, the reporters seem more educated and report the news in a more professional manner.
Also Hate all the Ignorant car commercials. Especially the Idiots on the Holly Kia commercials! They seem to be making fun of people here on the shore. I refuse to do business with them just because of their commercials.
^^^^^ Yes, that!
I have a great idea! Let's propose what we would like to see changed on this Blog. Always reporting crime is up in Salisbury which is fact, but nothing negative is ever said about our beloved Delaware. As a resident of Sussex County I would like to see crime statistics in Delaware, especially my hometown Seaford. As a lifelong resident of Seaford we get tired of hearing about Smallsbury. If we are to be informed we need more Delaware news from you. We hope you consider our request.
I would like to see some actual journalism and hunting down a story instead of waiting for a phone call about turkey vultures or spiders in your yard, that is not reporting, that is just wasting my time as a viewer. I get that they have to read press releases, how about doing an actual story on them.
I see more and more REGION news, you have more than enough news that you do not report on here in our AREA, if you are looking for filler then have capt. willey go out and find stories, I am sure he will do a better job than the nitwits you have reporting right now.
8:16, Thanks for the comment. Salisbury News receives all Delaware State Police Press Releases. Most come from Dover and Wilmington and we also get a lot of accident reports from I-95 accidents.
Considering that is too far north, (in my opinion) I do not publish those releases but we do cover all of Sussex County.
Delaware doesn't have a Case Search like Maryland does and that is very unfortunate.
All that being said, Salisbury News is run with only two people. We deliver news 24 hours a day and we are a free service. I will see what I can do to garnish more crime information in your area but I do not believe crime is anywhere near the volume we see in Salisbury.
8:37, The recent Perdue article comes to mind. Journalism, WBOC, no way! One simple call to Perdue would have confirmed they are only relocating 94 employees to Delmar, not 200 as WBOC continues to publish day after day.
I think you are right though. If it's not handed to them, they do not do investigative reporting. You have to remember too, WBOC has only SECONDS to tell a story and what they deliver you in no way explains enough of a story to ever call anything they put out there balanced.
They also very conveniently find nitwits to interview who always AGREE with WBOC's views. Half can't speak, half have no teeth and they usually interview people from locations that actually advertise with WBOC, another little inside tidbit.
Unfortunately, I believe WBOC has forgotten where they came from. Think about it. If you have to go from one town to the next asking people what THEY want to see, something went very wrong with that business. They spent hundreds of thousands of dollars hiring a company that could tell them who their viewing audience is. Guess what, or should I say, guess who they are... REDNECKS. Hence the Outdoors Delmarva Show. That is honestly how that got created.
Now I don't know about you but I have never once watched that show. I know how to fish and hunt and I certainly do not need someone else telling me how to do it. I guess I'm not their kind of REDNECK.
As for the commercials, (as someone else stated) they have to be the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. Screaming and yelling, then there's that other one, DEAL! Man, these people must really love seeing themselves on television but come on, their neighbors have to be looking at them on a daily basis and think, what an Idiot. Then there's the Friends & Family, (or neighbor) deal, REALLY? Car salesmen will screw their friends and family so fast it isn't funny. The salesmen don't make the deals, their managers do and believe me, you are NOT their friend or family. I know, here's a great marketing idea. Why not make great deals for EVERYONE. Hey, sorry, I don't know you. Your not my friend, family or neighbor.
This is why we buy our vehicles from Pohanka. Clean, courteous, and no stupid commercials. I'm an educated consumer and I know the kind of deal I want when I walk in the door and they respect and honor that. Now there may be more dealers like them in the area but that is who I choose to buy from.
Anyhow, I think those commercials bring the quality level on WBOC down to the lowest level imaginable. Can they do better, absolutely. However, YOU'RE A REDNECK, YOU KNOW.
WBOC is not Delmarva's News Leader by any stretch of the imagination! Should call themselves Delaware's News Leader, or Johnny's ("Janosick) private TV station. Slanted news reporting when/if they report anything from the Salisbury or lower shore areas. Guess they think that all their viewers are interested in the current temperature in the metropolitan area of Ruthsberg (population 20). Why waste valuable air time with fluff/BS? More real news from the local areas should be WBOC's goal, but they are more interested in national news. It is pretty bad when WRDE has Salisbury news that is not covered by WBOC. Maybe they can learn something from the WRDE or even WMDT news teams when it comes to real local news reporting. The community meetings are a complete joke and waste of time and money.
If you ask me WMDT and WBOC have some inside agreement that they will share stories ahead of time. Watching WMDT is like watching someone drag their fingernails across a chalkboard, you know there will be a screwup at some point during the broadcast, and honestly after last nights 6pm broadcast WBOC is quickly becoming the same.
I for one hope that WRDE will increase their broadcast footprint so I can try them OTA.
Outdoors Delmarva is the best thing WBOC has going, I like that show when I get a chance to watch it, Capt. Willey is the best personality WBOC has, I like that they are using him more as he is down to earth and identifies with the rest of us "Rednecks".
I warch WRDE. They are in Delaware but cover more about what happens on the Eastern Shore then either WBOC or WMDT.
Why do they need us to give them story ideas? Isn't there enough going on in our area to fill the newscast?
WBOC will only broadcast the ideas THEY want you to see or hear, so let's let them know flat out what you think about their station.
Wow that kind of thinking can really get you in trouble. Glad nobody else does that.
WBOC and WMDT both suck at what they do. All they have to do to turn their stations around is report what is local. People in Salisbury could care less what is happening in DE. We want to know what is happening in every neighborhood in SALISBURY, not fluff this and fluff that. Crime is happening here and people want to know if it's down the street or around the corner from them.
Seriouly, the problem with all news outlets including this site, Fox being the exception periodically, is that the majority of the time you never allow opinions that disagree with yours. You have an agenda and its totally bias reporting. News should be just like gambling, with 50% of the people on one side and the other 50% on the other side. The juice is what sport wagering wants to capture. The same should hold true with reporting the news. sadly it all bias!

They could do some investigative reporting. We have a Heroin, prostitution, and severe crime problem in Salisbury. How about the high unemployment and poverty here on the shore? Vacant building and warehouses. Why aren't they reporting this? Because it's bad for tourism, or special interests?
They need to get off their collective asses and do this!!!!
How about the high homeless problems in Salisbury. Have they every checked out or interviewed anyone from Halo Shelter down the road from them?
Face it. They have neither the talent nor the staff nor the motivation to do informative news reporting. It's all about providing something to fill in between the commercials that pay their way.
And no, a bus crash in California is not the news that's important to me or anybody else on Delmarva.
10:59, The Chamber of Commerce says NO to ANYTHING negative being reported in Salisbury. IF you go anywhere close to defying what ANY of the Chamber Members say, you will get blackballed. That mean, many businesses will stop advertising. None of the local media will go after the things you suggest because it kills their wallets.
This is why we LOVE our advertisers. They know we tell the truth. We cover stories no one else will. We also don't RAPE them in advertising fees and one year contracts.
Turn off your televisions for a month. Have a family meeting after the month is up and make some decisions about what's worth your time and money.
There to busy sleeping with each other to do any real reporting. If people only knew... Ha wboc is one big orgy. Half the reason they can't keep a respectable reporter.
PROOF, name names. I love a good piece of truth, gossip ain't worth nothing. Joe good comment for investigation not insinuations.
I suggest as far as crime being reported, we should have accurate figures for every murder, and rape in Salisbury. We don't ever receive accurate figures at the end of each year, they gloss over real stats. When you watch Baltimore news referring to murders they always say this is # for this year. Residents and employers need to know the facts so that we can do all we can for ourselves. It is not fair to our college students/their families as they have stated to make their decisions on schools. We need to get the panhandlers off the streets and fine them when they are caught, have background checks on them when they are charged to see are their needs real, if so take them to shelters if not eliminate them from our streets. Over all the city looks terrible high grass, weeds and tree weeds that are over 4 foot tall, we look like the worst areas of Baltimore and DC. Businesses should clean up just like homeowners and landlords should do. Make our city attractive like it used to be, bring back pride, and areas where people want to get out and walk. Our roads are the worst, our highways nasty, pot holes deep enough to break axels, route 13 looks like a cess pool that drives people away who would shop here. And where did the curfew idea go, why were we not able to vote on it?
8:38, You want to talk to me, be a man and send me a direct e-mail. This is not a chat room, unless you are a coward.
It's a very small town media market and as such does not command the level of journalistic experience I am a costumed to.
It is a training ground for entry level reporters that will move on to bigger markets if they're succesful.
I think that's the model and unlikely to change. I'd like my cable choices to include DC and Philly channels.
