Sales of actual pumpkins plummet as pumpkin spice everything abounds

Are you craving pumpkin spice everything?

You aren't alone-- according to Nielsen, which tracks consumer behavior, 37 percent of U.S. shoppers purchased a pumpkin-flavored product last year. Such products, which have become synonymous with autumn, accounted for $361 million in sales in the last year, having spiked by 79 percent since 2011.

On the other hand, sales of fresh pumpkins have declined since 2011, with 8.6 million fewer pumpkins being sold, a Nielsen analysis found.

I wonder if we'll still see fields full of pumpkins like we always have,or if their popularity in every imagineable product will take all available pumpkins.

Many of the products you see in the store do not even contain pumpkin in them. They have 'pumpkin spice'. It is the same spice they use to make pumpkin pie.

What a shame that we have all become a Nation of easy ways to make the customary Pumpkin Pie. Frozen, has taken the place of the old homemade pie. Now there is even cut out pumpkins that you can light up. The fun of cutting out the Halloween Pumpkins is almost a thing of the past. So glad I grew up when I did. Memories are wonderful.

10:45-Since when do comments have to strictly adhere to an article? For instance, most of us have strong emotional ties to the subject, which of course is pumpkins.Traditional issues tend to take off in their own directions, and I for one enjoy reading the comments on this topic.

Sales of pumpkins have declined because to buy a good size pumpkin can be 20 dollars or more depending where you go. Fifteen at least...who can buy a few pipmkins at that price. And who will spend that on something your goong to throw away probably. You can bu plastic ones that last for years for that money.
