MIKULSKI PRAISES PRESIDENT'S COST-OF-LIVING ADJUSTMENT FOR FEDERAL EMPLOYEES IN 2016
As Vice Chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator fought to protect federal employee COLA in FY16 Financial Services Appropriations bill
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.), Vice Chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today praised President Obama’s Alternative Pay Plan providing for a Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for federal employees in January 2016.
“I’m pleased that President Obama has issued an Alternative Pay Plan providing for a COLA for federal employees in January 2016. This modest COLA would go a long way in recognizing the value of federal employees and further bring to a close years of pay freezes,” Senator Mikulski said. “I’m proud to fight on the front lines on behalf of federal employee pay just as federal employees work on the front lines each and every day on behalf of the American people. Federal employees have been undervalued and underappreciated for too long. Each and every day, federal employees stand up for America. That’s why I will continue to stand up for federal employees.”
Based on the President’s action, members of the military will receive a 1.3 percent COLA. Federal civilian employees nationwide will receive a one-percent COLA. In addition, those federal civilian employees living in more costly economic regions also will receive a locality pay adjustment.
Locality pay was established to provide parity between Federal and non-Federal salaries in areas where non-Federal pay exceeds Federal pay by more than five percent. Nationwide, this pay is set among 32 locality-pay areas to take into account the regional differences in salaries and wages. Locality pay has been frozen since 2010.
As Vice Chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Mikulski successfully worked to ensure no provision would be included in the fiscal year (FY) 2016 Financial Services Appropriations bill to block the President’s proposed January 2016 cost of living increase. This builds on Senator Mikulski’s successful fight to include a one-percent COLA for both blue collar wage-grade and General Schedule (GS) scale federal employees in the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act of 2015.
Maryland is home to the headquarters of 20 major federal agencies, from the Social Security Administration to the Food and Drug Administration. More than 300,000 federal employees and retirees live and work in Maryland, serving the nation and serving the world.

I read there will not be an increase for those on Social Security in January due to low/ no inflation.

Easily 75% of the government workers are not qualified and incapable of doing the jobs that they hold. Between affirmative action, the peter principle, and longevity promotions; we have a federal government that is so bloated and ineffective that it wastes half the tax revenues taken in.
If they fired all the government workers that weren't appointed and made them all apply for their former positions...with actual qualifications screenings and interviews (like the outside), we could hire people that actually want to work and can/will do the job.
Even if there were no raises, federal employees already have the best jobs and benefits in America.
I have NO sympathy for any of them.
