County Executive Announces Departure of Deputy County Attorney

“I wish Mrs. Howarth the best in her future endeavors,” Mr. Culver stated.

What a loss. I did not vote for this. Pushing good people out is the Mark of a horrible leader. Sorry Joe This is rediculous.

A quiet, capable, intelligent and lovely person. She'll be missed.

It is almost fair to ask if some of these people are leaving because of the new culture and not because Bob is trying to clean house.

If it is culture related and not organized housecleaning I can see problems down the road.

When you lose all your experienced people that understand how things work that is not good.

When you buy an on going company instead of starting one from scratch often you are buying the experience and abilities of the people already in place.

I remember Mr.Culver made it plain during the election he wanted change. The people voted for him overwhelming including me. I was tired of the same old mindset that has ran this county for the last 35 years. Apparently, I wasn't by myself. Culver has been in several months now and hopefully analyzed the changes that were needed. I am going to support him and give him the chance to make changes.

Rest assured, it's Bob doing his weeding.

Make sure she has no credit cards also.

Oh baloney. Stop being an apologist for the establishment.

I doubt it.

Great move Maureen.

Same thing happened at Spd. Babsie got rid of everyone and hired her own crew of cowards.

The law department grew bloated with 3 attorneys thanks to Pollitt, Creamer and company. Some of us who have a brain, wonder why little ole Wicomico County needed 3 attorneys plus support staff when other bigger counties with more complicated issues don't need that many.

This was another example of the good ole boy system at its best which began with the sweet deal Baker got to buy in to the retirement system. Now we are stuck paying him close to his full salary for the rest of his life. I, for one, don't think he earned it or deserves
it.

The sky is not falling! Finally, some good judgment is being used.

Look for Culver to do something more cost effective for the County with a wiser, more ethical attorney. That is what he was voted into office to do.

Now they can bring back Baker for more than he was being paid when he left. Or maybe Paul Wilbur.

Joe, Cannon is being ridiculous about the Economic Development funding. Please post something about that. Cannon is part of the problem in this town.

A good example of a change in philosophy and management is when we the people made a change in our States Attorney after 25 years with the same one. There were lots of negative comments about the changes but all have turned out to be for the best. Let's hope for the same with our county govt.

So why did Culver not make her the County Attorney after Baker retired. Apparently Worcester County, where she will be its attorney, considers her well qualified.

I find it humorous that people leaving for various reasons - retiring, better opportunity or firing - are causing such angst among some people. This kind of thing happens more often than not in the private sector. Do you people REALLY believe Wicomico County has been well-served by the same employees being around for years and years? Open your eyes!!! Those in high level positions have lined their pockets and retirement on the backs of you, the taxpayer. Your poor schools, poor roads, high taxes and more have largely been either caused or executed by these employees that you are so upset are leaving. You have been stuck in the "that's how it has always been done mentally". How has THAT worked out for you? Good riddance and bring on new blood. Maybe we can get this County back on track with them gone.

first 6:48 - you are correct. Bloated "law" department is an understatement. Morris wouldn't make a move of any kind without checking with "law". Department Heads were ordered under Pollitt to run everything by "law". Department Heads should be smart enough to make a decision on their own unless it is something highly unusual. What the heck are we paying them for if they have to run to "law" for everything? They should be paid less if they can't be trusted to run their department without "law".

This is a scam perpetrated on the taxpayer by Pollitt and especially Creamer to grow government and keep the good ole boys going. Thank goodness it seems to be coming to an end.

Bring back sanity in government!

Hey Johnny Cannon. When are you going to wise up and rid yourself of Creamer? You are looking dumber every day by keeping him.

Who's the replacement?

Anonymous said...

Yes Cannon, keeping a 73 year old man who has retired once and then you hired him back needs to go home and enjoy the fruits of his labor. His power base is diminishing quickly and it isnt going to be fun for him much longer, thankfully. Please give him "early retirement" like we had stolen from several years ago.

Lets see after 1 year of the E.D. office How many new businesses come to salisbury.

My guess it can be counted in less than one hand.

Sounds good people buts lets get real.

All the good jobs are forever gone from here and no new dept or executive is gonna make a difference.

Cannon is looking dumb with his behavior from Tuesday night. He held a public hearing on the budget and then he voted to pass it with the economic development money being approved. Now he wants to hold another public hearing regarding it? For what reason? It's not about being prudent as he said in the Times article. It's about micro-managing and a jealousy because he didn't run against Rick. He didn't believe Pollitt could be beat. Cannon you are looking like a fool. We the people are watching. If you want to have a chance to beat Culver you had better rethink your actions.

True-International corporations w/yearly sales well in the billions and more employees than the whole population of Wic Co, employ less lawyers in their legal dept.

Cannon is a loser! The only reason he was elected was because he was the lessor of the evils between him and Laura Mitchell. Neither of them should in any way be involved in making decisions for this community. He won't win again if a decent person runs. He was voted out before because he was awful and he took advantage of getting back in because people did NOT want Mitchell.

Cannon will NEVER beat Culver. cannon got squashed on a state level when he ran for office. Only you local idiots voted him back in here. He is a Rhino plain and simple. He looks out for his realtor buddies and his own interest. Educated people read right through him. He has done nothing for the people of our county.

As for Maureen she is a loss. I guess Worcester hired her without researching her qualifications you mouth breathers. I tell you I love this county but you people have been breathing chicken crap so long it has F'd you brains up. Every time I attend a council meeting I hear banjo music.

It is not Bob it is Strausburg he is a drunken fool. Bob you really need to dump that clown.

There is a lot of incompetence in county government that has not been challenged - now we have someone who is actually hands on and paying attention. Rick was and still is a very nice person, problem is that he was driving the county with his hand off the steering wheel.

I'm happy that finally people are sharing their true feelings about Cannon. He should have never been re-elected let alone put in as President of the council. Marc Kilmer it is time for you to step up for the people and become president. You are a self thinker and I know you wouldn't allow Creamer to lead you under the guise of "its the way we have always done it." It's a new day in Wicomico County and we need to strike while the iron in hot.

This needs to be bumped to the top....2 stories going on here in comments. The staff changes and Cannon trying to challenge Bob on economic development after it has already been approved. This is important for people to read. thanks.

The fact that the President of a "Republican" controlled Council challenges the County Executive so much amounts to one thing. Cannon is trying to set himself up to run against Culver with the support of the Democrats. Cannon seems to have forgotten that Pollitt was REJECTED by the citizens by a large margin. Cannon has his nose so far up Creamer's butt that he can't see the reality of what is happening in this County. Cannon's thinking is part of the past, he is not a progressive thinker. Thanks to the past leadership, the kind Cannon still believes in and supports (evidenced by his continuing to retain Creamer - the LEADER of the good ole boys), our County has become the worst in the state. Businesses closing, upwardly mobile taxpayers exiting, schools in chaos, roads crumbling, crime raging. This all occurred under DEMOCRATIC leadership that Cannon sucks up to. Cannon needs to be replaced as Council President IMMEDIATELY. The other Republicans need to get this done!!!

Cannon is a pain in the @ss. You don't need a public hearing on something already approved. And by the way Cannon, at least Culver is trying to do something about economic development. What are you doing except being an obstructionist to Culver every chance you get? If you think you will get Republican support next time you run, you're nuts! You only won this time because you were the lesser of 2 evils and now people are rethinking that. Great job of destroying your so called "political" career by your actions. Bye bye Johnny boy.

Cannon is no republican. If he decides to challenge Culver, he will be fighting against Hogan too. The big guys in Annapolis are watching what is happening in this county and who the problem children are. Cannon will be sitting at the kids' table while the grown ups "school him" on what it means to be a REPUBLICAN. Cannon, you get dumber everyday. Keep it up and we will be rid of you sooner rather than later.

Crannon = Creamer and Cannon. Cannon can't function without Creamer telling him what to do. That is my new name for the Rhino loser.

CRANNON!!!!!

Culver needs to send Ennis and Strasburg packing!

Joe, please move this up to the top. Some great comments are being made here. Thanks

Last night I met a Worcester County Commissioner who is astonished that Culver did not appoint her to Baker's position when he retired.

Another Moronic Comment about Kilmer being the Council President. He is not qualified and I would rather have John Hall as President. If you were paying attention you would have noticed that Kilmer doesn't play well with Culver. Kilmer voted against Bob on this economic development deal. I'm beginning to think that Kilmer is posting these comments trying make himself the council president. Self thinker my butt, more like self promoter.
