Will clerk issue gay marriage licenses after court ruling?

MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) — A county clerk in Kentucky has again refused to issue marriage licenses to gay couples, invoking her religious beliefs and "God's authority" — this time in defiance of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling against her.

On Tuesday morning, Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis' office denied the licenses to at least two couples. At first, Davis was in her office with the door closed and blinds drawn. But she emerged a few minutes later, telling the couples and the activists gathered there that her office is continuing to deny the licenses "under God's authority."

SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO. THEY CAN'T FIRE HER BECAUSE SHE IS ELECTED. THEY COULD IMPEACH HER, LIKE WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN TO OBAMA. SHE IS ENTITLED TO HER BELIEFS AND THESE GAYS ARE TRYING TO GET THEIR 15 MINUTES OF FAME, IN KENTUCKY OF ALL PLACES.

I admire her for her strength.

She swore an oath to up hold the Constitution, the word God does not appear anywhere in the Constitution.
It is not her job to judge but to perform her duties for the taxpayers of the county, gay and straight.

You cannot force someone to commit acts against their conscious. This is a test for all of us from God.

The people she is denying, do they get the taxes they paid back?

God Created Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.

The right thing for her to do is to resign.

She's on her fourth husband....great christian role model.

That's not what was said when the gays pissed and moaned about same sex marriage.

Ever heard of separation of church and state or maybe ever the rule of law? She can be held in contempt of court. Try to set aside your irrational religious convictions for 5 seconds and use your brain.

Absolutely! ! Well said. Glad to see some rational thought

Agreed.

That's the fallacy...hipocrosy at its finest.

If God gave her the authority,
then God should give her a paycheck.

Oh that's rich... she has been married FOUR times.... just confirmed. To be fair to of those four were to the same man... but wow.

12:20 who are you to judge someone?

No one is forcing her 11:58, she can go find another job that agrees with her conscious.
She ran for this job all on her own and if it not to her liking she can resign.

12:42, no, I haven't heard of the separation of Church and State. Would you be so kind as to point out what law that is?

Thanks, I'll wait right here...

Love it!

And that sums it up.

@1:44

Sure.. I'll make it simple. Here is the 1st Amendment of the Constitution that includes the Establishment Clause:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Here is Thomas Jefferson, you know, the guy who penned this stuff explaining what it meant in a letter to a Baptist Church making it clear:

To messers Nehemiah Dodge, Ephraim Robbins, & Stephen S. Nelson, a committee of the Danbury Baptist association in the state of Connecticut.

Gentlemen

The affectionate sentiments of esteem & approbation which you are so good as to express towards me, on behalf of the Danbury Baptist association, give me the highest satisfaction. my duties dictate a faithful & zealous pursuit of the interests of my constituents, and in proportion as they are persuaded of my fidelity to those duties, the discharge of them becomes more & more pleasing.

Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man & his god, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, thus building a wall of separation between church and state. [Congress thus inhibited from acts respecting religion, and the Executive authorised only to execute their acts, I have refrained from presenting even occasional performances of devotion presented indeed legally where an Executive is the legal head of a national church, but subject here, as religious exercises only to the voluntary regulations and discipline of each respective sect.] Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties.

I reciprocate your kind prayers for the protection and blessing of the common Father and creator of man, and tender you for yourselves and your religious association, assurances of my high respect & esteem.

(signed)
Th Jefferson
Jan.1.1802. "

Hope that clears it all up for you.

12:42 it's people like you who have our nation behaving like the modern day Sodom and Gomorrah it is. One of the biggest problems we have is that people stopped standing up for what they believe in.

Lets see,she has been married four times, has illegitimate children but all of a sudden she is making moral judgments on others? That's rich! She,like every other entitlement minded person, expects the Supreme Court to reverse their decision because she has a problem with following the law as it was written. If she truly was morally outraged, she would quit her job but she is making an issue of it in hopes of probably hitting it big with a religious discrimination lawsuit.I'm not fooled for one minute by her fake outrage.

Davis “gave birth to twins five months after divorcing her first husband, (and) they were fathered by her third husband but adopted by her second husband.”

Yup, she is the one to tell people how to live.

@2:56

This country, is one of the most advanced, civilized nations in the history of ever. General health, well being, safety, etc etc are at unprecidented levels.

How can you possibly try and claim that this great nation is a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah.

BTW, I've read the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. It ends with Lots daughters getting him liquored up and taking advantage of him. Not only is that called rape, but its also called incest. How can you possibly claim any kind of moral high ground based on THAT story?

She is looking for a payday as the poor persecuted Christian.

Oh yes. Sure it is. I served my country as a Marine in the Gulf war knucklehead. I fought for what I believe it. Doubt you have the same conviction.

It's people like you....allowing their religious convictions to override the rule of law that manifest theocracies like the taliban.

Yes well...we can't all think rationally I guess.
