Probation agents adjust to dangers of Baltimore with new measures

The streets of Baltimore may be getting too dangerous for probation agents.

In an email sent to all city probation agents, supervisors said routine visits to clients’ homes are now discretionary. It’s up to the agents to decide whether they’re safe to visit.

If agents do choose to conduct home visits, supervisors are ordering agents to wear body armor. Otherwise, clients must report to their agent’s office.

The measures come after agents expressed concern about safety risks. Union leaders say they’re pleased with the new protocol.
