Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder waged a "war on police," former New York City Police Commissioner Howard Safir said Sunday when asked about the federal probe of the Baltimore Police Department.
"He spent more time investigating police departments than he did investigating criminals," Safir told John Catsimatidis, host of "The Cats Roundtable" on AM 970 in New York.
But Safir called Holder's successor Loretta Lynch "fair and honest."
"As long as they’re going into this with the idea of improving policing rather than going after the police, it’s probably OK." he said.
Safir, who was commissioner during Mayor Rudolph Giuliani's administration, said that current Mayor Bill de Blasio's ending of "stop-and-frisk" policing was a mistake that will lead to more crime in the city.
