Summer 2016 Road Detours Planned As Part of Construction; Public Feedback and Attendance is Encouraged
What:
In summer 2016, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will replace the bridge on MD 54 (Delmar Road) over Mockingbird Creek in Wicomico County. The bridge is structurally safe but has reached the end of its lifespan. Replacing the bridge will reduce future maintenance costs and support safety and mobility as part of SHA’s bridge system preservation program.
Construction should take approximately 10 weeks once the 2015-2016 school year ends, and will involve two detours: one for trucks and one for all other vehicles, including bicycles.
The informational meeting will acquaint the public with the project and provide attendees an opportunity to inform SHA of their project-related concerns. Display areas will depict the proposed operational and safety improvements, and SHA representatives will be available to discuss project issues and answer questions. No formal presentation will be given. You may arrive at any time during meeting hours and walk through the display area at your own pace.
WHEN: Monday, April 20 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
WHERE: Hebron Volunteer Fire Department, 300 N. Main St., Hebron, MD 21830

Note, June 2016, not this summer.
Why replace it now? It's been worked on just about every year since the last major overhaul. They've already spent enough to replace it 3 times. And why in the summer when there is much more traffic, why not in the winter when there is much less traffic? And surely you're not going to use school bus traffic as the excuse. Foolish, as usual.
Duh, because school is out in the summer. This road has direct access to Mardela HS and Northwestern Elementary.
Duh, there are several roads with direct access to the schools, but the traffic is much less in the fall/winter/spring than in the summer....DUH. The bridge is structurally sound they say, but they're going to replace it. Again, foolish as usual for the SHA.
