Presumed Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson is pinpointing hip-hop music as the cause for the deterioration of the nation's black communities.
Calling for a return to faith-based values during an interview on a New York-based channel that describes itself as 'America’s most recognizable black radio station,' the Tea Party icon, who is himself black, claimed African-Americans had embraced an 'aspect of modern society that pretty much dismisses anything that has to do with Jesus Christ.'
And that is the 'hip-hop community,' he told a WBLS host, according to Business Insider.

I guess he is correct if one subscribes to formulating theories based on their own imagination instead of hard facts.
If nothing else, hip-hop is a reflection of how miserable things have become, and how low we can go.

If you believe that, you obviously have spent no time around these types of people, and are absolutely clueless about what you speak.
Its hard to say that Hip-Hop doesn't have an influence. But then again so does pop music and there is plenty of trash involved in that. I would say that music is a distraction to most. But there are always people willing to emulate bad behavior. In which case TV, News, Magazines, Games etc also have as much of an impact.
Wouldn't it be more accurate to say that any form of art or entertainment that specifically focuses on the negative aspects of humanity is bad? No I would not say that HIP HOP is all the same. Just like all of anything is not the same. Hip Hop focuses a lot on hate, anger and empowerment through violence. That is what is bad.
It sounds to me like someone is paraphrasing poorly. I am sure that Dr. Carson has a well thought out philosophy on this but in our age of sound bites and 30 second clips when you compress someones thoughts you come up with idiotic statements. Just imagine if I followed you through your day and I selectively picked out things you have said. Its easy to misunderstand a point of view..
503 has never listened to the "Hip hop" Ben refers to, with fisting, or f-ing with a flashlight, or many other unnatural acts celebrated in the "music".
It's really bad, unless you really want that sort of thing for your 5 year old daughter, at which point I disregard any of your future posts.
319 you have me rolling in laughter over here. Try this on. 30 something year old black male who grew up on hip hop. My friends and I blasted plenty of the most well known artists for growing up and drill to this day. This same peer group now includes scientists (me), accountants, military vets, educators, medical professionals. I could go on. You know folks, the world is less confusing when you allow facts to color your perspective.
