Most teachers would agree, but good luck teaching anything when all they have time for is teaching for the state tests. Get rid of the dept of ed and all these wasteful programs and just let teachers teach !

How would you teach a child who looks at you and says "F@$& you". Then the child tells you they don't care about school and that you can't make them do anything 'cause they'll call their momma?

I'm a teacher and I agree 100%. Now just leave me alone and let me do what I know how to do. I can even deal with the f.u. student if we properly enforce rules of conduct.

And there lies the problems - all of those wasteful programs and not being able to enforce rules of conduct. Most people send their kids to school to learn not to mouth off to the teachers and anyone in authority. If only time could be turned back and those who want to mouth off could be dealt with - it was a board that had holes drilled in it and usually the principal used it - unruly, mouthy kids didn't have so much mouth after a time or two meeting the board. That was really a board of education and too bad it still cannot be administered.

Blame the democrat politicians who are in bed with the FOR PROFIT testing companies. It's time people figured out that every single thing wrong in this country is because of the democrats and their policies. Democrats are worthless self serving people who could care less about their own children much less anyone else's. Democrats only love themselves. Their own children are for photo ops and campaign purposes ONLY. They SPEND SPEND SPEND to buy votes totally disregarding and not caring that it is the next generations who will pay.

The rules of conduct have been so diluted anymore that a student has to practically commit murder on school grounds for anything of any substance to be done anymore. This thanks to obama and MD's democratic controlled State House AND the stupid democrat voters who can't see the forest through the trees.

11:49 or chew his Pop Tart into a gun, or kiss his teacher on the cheek, or, God forbid, bring a butter knife to school. Anyone else see a problem here?

There is more to teaching than a curriculum. Every kid is different. You as a teacher need to be able to figure out a way to teach different kids. Figure a way they can relate. Christ sake....math teacher has problems teaching .....use eight balls and grams. Bet they'll understand then. I know its crazy but an example. Your job is to teach and capture the students minds. Think outside the box if that's not to much on your busy schedule.

Teachers can't anymore 1:06. They have to follow a strict curriculum which is informally known as "teaching to the test." You can't go outside of that "box." It's due to the huge lobby of the yes for profit testing companies. This has lead to all the faux diagnosis of the children. They can then be labels as learning disabled and the testing can be modified. Believe it or not, some high school students have the tests read to them. The BS excuse the "experts" use is they get anxiety or something. The more diagnosed learning disabled the more the tests can be manipulated so it appears the student is doing well.
These tests are high stakes because if it appears as though the students are making progress the federal and the state governments then dole out the grant money. It's all an illusion and yes is the fault of the democrats.
