SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah has passed a bill that would make it the only state to allow firing squads for carrying out a death penalty if there is a shortage of execution drugs.
The 18-10 vote by the state Senate on Tuesday comes as states struggle to obtain lethal injection drugs amid a nationwide shortage.
The bill’s sponsor, Republican Rep. Paul Ray of Clearfield, touted the measure as being a more humane form of execution. Ray argued that a team of trained marksmen is faster and more humane than the drawn-out deaths that have occurred in botched lethal injections.

Sadistic
Now if they could shorten the appeal process to 1 week, think of the money (taxpayers) that could be saved!
As our society continues to become more and more violent so does the justice system.
Let's televise each execution so the whole world can see how barbaric the US can be.
It is not sadistic. It is a warning don't commit a crime in Utah.
Hey UTAH I can spare some ammo help out the tax payers....
Whats anymore barbaric, or sadistic that the people convicted and sentenced to death ?
What is sadistic and barbaric is the crimes that were committed to require the death penalty being handed down.
HBO.
I've been pondering moving to a place like Utah for it's safety, This makes it more appealing.
We need this in Salisbury
Oklahoma allows firing squad if lethal injection is found to be unconstitutional.
You should check out how many states still have a hanging option.
I know they won't, but they should start with 2 shots to the knees. Allow them to sit there for a day. Come back, two to the shoulders. Sit another day. THEN, finish the job.
I am a fan of public hanging. You break the law, you get one appeal and then your execution is televised. Harsh, but I am positive crime would go down!
They could make millions selling lottery to tickets to be on the squad.
