LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — The real estate blog Movoto has compiled a list of the 10 most dangerous places to live in Maryland.
Researchers used the 2012 FBI Unified Crime Report to find the number of murders, rapes, robberies, assaults, burglaries, thefts and vehicle thefts in every location with at least 5,000 residents.
The list is as follows:
1. Elkton, Cecil County
In 2012, Elkton had 13 murders per 100,000 people, the third highest number of violent crimes on the top 10 list and more assaults per person than any other top 10 town or city.
Population: 15,681
Chance of being the victim of a crime: 1 in 11
2. Baltimore
Charm City had the most robberies per 100,000 people in 2012, which contributed to it having the second highest amount of violent crime rate in the state. Baltimore also had the eighth highest property crime, the seventh most total crime, and the second highest amount of murders (35 murders per 100,000 people).
Population: 625,474
Chance of being the victim of a crime: 1 in 16
3. Bladensburg, Prince George’s County
Bladensburg had by far the most vehicle thefts per 100,000 people in 2012 (1,041). It also ranked third most dangerous in regards to murder, eighth in total crime and sixth in violent crime.
Population: 9,322
Chance of being the victim of a crime: 1 in 17
4. Ocean City, Worcester County
Zero murders were reported in Ocean City in 2012, but it had the most thefts (16,437 per 100,000 people) and the most rapes on the list. That led to it being first in total crime.
Population: 7,179
Chance of being the victim of a crime: 1 in 5
5. Cambridge, Dorchester County
Cambridge had the ninth most murders per 100,000 people (8) in 2012. Additionally, it saw 72 rapes, 265 robberies, and 683 assaults per 100,000 people, which gave it the fifth place ranking in violent crime.
Population: 12,454
Chance of being the victim of a crime: 1 in 15
6. Salisbury, Wicomico County
Salisbury had a much lower murder rate than most places in Maryland and very few vehicle thefts, but it did have the fourth most total crime and the fifth most property crime in the ranking. The Eastern Shore town also had the fourth highest violent crime rate in the state, thanks to a high number of assaults and robberies.
Population: 30,778
Chance of being the victim of a crime: 1 in 14

Da bury would be much higher on the list if they accurately and truthfully reported their crime stats.
What a wonderful state. High taxes and crime. How is that liberal give all the thugs my hard earned money going for ya???
The Ocean City stat is very deceiving as the do not reflect the enormous summertime population.
I still would not go there during the summer season.

Bingo!!
That is a fact!! Matt Maciarello told me that is exactly what the are doing to help first offenders and to bring the crime rate down.
Also I have talked to many business owners who have had been victims of crime, but they refuse to report it because their insurance rates would sky rocket.
With all this said it makes me wonder if Salisbury should really have the highest crime rate in the nation.
Welcome to Salisbury, land of the Hug-a-Thug culture.
That is how Duncan gets her High Point model to work, it doesn't actually lower crime or rehabilitate offenders, you just skew the numbers so everyone thinks it does, while fraudulently collecting grant money under false crime stats.
First the OC stat is pure make believe. Second, Salisbury the biggest crime rate in the nation? Are you serious? Crime may be an issue (just like everywhere)but Salisbury is a long way from a crime ridden community. Those that don't think so need to visit a few crime ridden communities instead of forming their opinions from their parents basement.
330-Do yourself a favor and look around. I've lived in 6 major metro areas across the country, before retiring to the Shore. No area had a higher crime rate than Salisbury. Salisbury might "feel safe" but every statistic says otherwise.
There are 2 sets of books,so no one locally has total control over the findings.
3:30 AKA Barbara Duncan, open your eyes and walk church st, smith st and Princeton homes area at night like I have and you will see what crime is.
Butt, Butt, Butt crime is down in da bury. Dats wat jaik dai tolds me. Jimmi be sayin dat crime is down in da bury two.

I think you are on to something. This person obviously has inside information so my best option is to believe them.
Why don't the Feds come down and slam the SPD. Take Jimmy with you. If Matt is that stupid then he should go as well.

Is that you Jimbeau. Are you talking about OC or RB?
"Salisbury is a long way from a crime ridden community" You are a lying Homo. This is either Jake Day or Jim Ireton and I can assure you I don't live in my parents basement. As a matter of fact there is plenty more room for you and your ugly significant other. Speaking of living in parents basement, wasn't it your daddy that got you your job a Perdue! Haven't you been coddled all your life by your parents! Isn't it true that you can't make it on your own and you never will. Get a real job Bozo!!
Is Jim Ireton no longer working for the BOE?
I don't know if O.C. really qualifies but take away the tourists and senior citizens and you have a sizeable population of wacked out dope head degenerates particularly from 9ththe St. South.
Need to get rid of section 8 housing in Wicomico county.
referring to Ocean City- you're going to encounter crime if you are out getting drunk at certain meat market bars at 2 a.m.
"Shall Issue" as opposed to "May Issue" because "An Armed Society is a Polite Society."
It might just be me but how many 'places' are there in Maryland? Tough to find ten 'cities'
The Feds need to investigate, just like they did at the last place duncan was a chief.

Good point. She packed up and moved out of there pretty quick didn't she. Mayor's and Councils are to stupid to do their own investigations. Chiefs to typically leave their job as the highest ranking police officer and pack up their big family to take another job in a smaller city for the fun of it. She had to leave her job and Salisbury was stupid enough to hire her. Same goes for John Fredericksen in the County. People leave their home towns and drive across the country for a new job because they are desperately in need of a job and background checks aren't really done.
"Get in that kitchen and rattle them pots and pans Duncan."
7:05 WHAT??? Are you not aware that they are building huge section 8 housing as you type? The two new units on Fitzwater..... you know...the "arts" housing. BIG JOKE!! I am really interested in how THAT works out.
8:19, OH, if you think THAT is bad, wait until you see what they're planning to do with the Downtown parking lot.
