Small-town America rebels against ‘police state’ arsenal

Citizens urge return of armored vehicles to Pentagon

Residents of an Idaho town are asking their city council to return an armored vehicle to the federal government and just say no to militarization.

John Whitehead, president of The Rutherford Institute, said he was contacted by a group of residents from Nampa, Idaho, and asked to urge their elected leaders to send the town’s military-grade equipment back where it belongs — to the Pentagon. Of particular concern is a mine-resistant ambush protected vehicle, or MRAP, acquired with grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The discussion of whether local police need machine guns, night-vision scopes or an armored vehicle needs to engage the entire community, and should not be unilaterally decided by the federal government, the military, or law enforcement, Whitehead said.

People just need to stop getting riled up over this.
We saw at the Bundy Ranch standoff that the feds and the local LE will go against orders and not go against fellow Americans if they are peaceful.
On the flip side we saw our fellow Americans go against orders of the State Dept and the CIA in Benghazi so they could help other Americans escape with their lives.

I'm all for it! Why should gay people get a free pass? If straight people should have to suffer through marriage then so should they.

I think we are way passed the police state and heading onward to Martial Law. Even with a police state they wouldn't need the military vehicles.

These types of vehicles were used in Ferguson, MO, and the people were protesting peacefully.

Meanwhile, I think it was San Diego Public Schools just received grenade launchers. What do they need them for?

Cops don't need any of this equipment. If it was that bad, the Governor could call in the National Guard.

Clean out the gangs and ghettos and crime would evaporate.

Please, please tell me you really do not believe the feds, ( and PRIVATE contractors ), stood down out of the goodness of their hearts.

What some do not know is that there were a LOT of vets, including plenty of Marines, on Bundy's side there. The feds were actually considering a military strike against them at one point.

It matters not to me what you or anyone else thinks of the Bundy's, or their reasons for rebelling against our government. ( Respectfully )

I am just GLAD someone stood up to this corrupt government and its' agencies.

But don't be mistaken. It did not end at the Bundy's ranch. That was just their toe testing the temperature of the waters. They will be back, and at various other places.

And one time, they will not back down and people on both sides will be killed. It WILL happen. I don't know when exactly, but soon. It is inevitable.

WRONG! Reporters on the scene daily were reporting gun shots and some of the media even had objects thrown at them.
It was far far far from peaceful. There were threats including threats of death, as well and other uncivilized behavior unlike the Bundy Ranch standoff which the protesters acted in a manner more consistent with a civil society.
Get your facts straight before commenting such nonsense. I watched prolonged coverage of both and it was the difference between night and day between the 2.

There were SOME peaceful protests in Ferg. And there were SOME projectiles thrown, shots fired, etc.

Neither one of you stated total nonsense, but BOTH of you used absolutes, which is just wrong. Both of you are correct and both of you are wrong. It just depends on which day each one of you are referring to.

Yeah Ferguson was so peaceful! Only in someone with a twisted imaginations mind. Those "people" and I use that term loosely behaved in a terroristic manner. They were looting and creating chaos.
This went on for days and days.
I will absolutely use an absolute with the Bundy Ranch standoff. Those people acted civilized at all times and this is a fact!
The police were absolutely right when they used the tactics they did in Ferguson. When "people" behave so uncivilized something an animal doesn't even do drastic measures have to be taken and it is well deserved.

Well then, you are just ridiculous.

Granted, they rioted and looted for weeks, but the 'terroristic' behavior I watched was from the police. Armored cars, more gear than our military uses in the middle east, SNIPERS targeting civilians, tear gas, flash bangs, everything except agent orange.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, even if it is wrong. Even strong opinions are acceptable, but when I read rants like yours, what I see most is hatred. Hatred towards a certain group of people.

I am not sure why you continue to try to compare the Bundy Ranch event with this event.

The Bundy thing was about protecting property, whereas the Ferguson thing was about a loss of life.

And your 'fact' seems to forget certain individuals being asked to leave the Bundy Ranch for their actions and words.

I am not going to waste my time trying to convince you of your errors, I think only God could do that. These two events are not at all that similar to each other.

My opinion after reading your comments is that you are trying to justify your hatred by attempting to draw parallels between the two when there are none.

Regardless, you also seem to forget that the sheriff's department was ordered to stand down and was replaced with the state police, because of their OVER-REACTION and typical escalation of the situation.

Now THAT is a FACT. If you don't believe that, just ask the governor of that state.

I have many other points I could share, but it is getting late and I really think they would fall on deaf and bigoted ears. Yours.

So with all due respect, I will let you wallow in your hatred and misinformation without me.

When people make allowances for bad and illegal behavior that is perpetrated on others but not them, they fail to realize that one day it WILL be them on the short end of the stick when they are through with the ones you do not like.

Good luck to you, I think you are going to need it in the future.

Peace.
