Wicomico County, Maryland Sheriff Mike Lewis recently made headlines in the state when he suggested he might not enforce new state gun laws that he believed were unconstitutional, despite court rulings to the contrary.
Sheriff Lewis then took things a step further, threatening “civil war” if the federal government attempted to enforce gun laws in Wicomico County. Speaking to News21 in August of 2014, Lewis stated:
As long as I’m the sheriff in this county, I will not allow the federal government to come in here and strip my citizens of their right to bear arms. I can tell you this, if they attempt to do that, it would be an all-out civil war, no question about it.
Despite these comments, Sheriff Lewis is still certified as an instructor by the Maryland Police Training Commission, a state agency with a mission of “ensur[ing] the quality of law enforcement…through the establishment and enforcement of standards and the facilitation and delivery of training, education and prevention programs.”

Incredible that with all the evidence showing that gun confiscation increases violence these crazies are still on the wrong track. If they truly wanted to stop the violence, not be advocates for more, they would strongly support Sheriff Lewis.
He's probably one of the best instructors available to the Commission; why would it make any sense to revoke his certification!

I support the Sheriff.. Illegal and/or unconstitutional "laws" are NOT laws.
Sheriff Lewis is probably the best sheriff in the country, but that is not his job.
He is part of the executive branch of government, whose job it is to *enforce* laws passed by the legislature and upheld by the courts. He is trying to perform the job of the judicial branch. Let the courts do their job Mike, and get back to doing yours.
I support his comments and beliefs on the 2nd amendment.
I would also be first in line to protect my rights if it came to civil war, then so be it.
The courts are becoming packed with people who do not represent the American Constitution and its people, only a certain agenda that runs counter to what thousands of Americans have fought and died for.
Mike Lewis has the right to say whatever he feels. If you do not like it you get a chance to get rid of him every four years. The fact of the matter is there is no able or willing to beat Mike is any election. Mike needs to run for County Executive and appoint a Sheriff from within the staff. Annapolis would soil their britches lol.

The sheriff is the only constructional law enforcer elected to protect the people of his/her districts…..Police are statutory and enforce regulations and rules.

I want those people to actually watch this video and explain to me why he said if he or his deputies saw someone walking down the street with this type of gun, that person would be looking at the barrel of Lewis' gun or his deputy.
Another interesting sound byte was when Lewis was told it was legal according to the states attorney, Lewis informed him he did not care what the states attorney said.
Lewis is riding an erroneous train of popularity on the internet when the train is not even loaded and still sits in the station.
It looks to me that Lewis is a better politician than a sheriff. He has people believing the exact opposite of what he has said and the opposite of what he would do.
Maybe he is right about one thing. There would be a civil war, but he would not be on the people's side.
