Pumpkins could be flying near the Monster Mile in Dover this fall.
If approved by its membership, the World Championship Punkin Chunkin Association plans to move its annual event, out of Sussex County for the first time in its 27-year history, to Dover International Speedway in Kent County.
"We feel confident that we have vetted all possible locations in Delaware and our surrounding region," said John Huber, association president. "Dover International Speedway provides a home for Punkin Chunkin that allows the event to live on and prosper. Without the speedway, the 2014 event would likely have been cancelled."

It is highly possible the event will draw more people into that race track than we've seen in several years.
But they haven't vetted the beach at Assateague or the stretch between Fenwick and Bethany.A laser range detector could determine the length of each shot when fired directly out into the ocean.Right now you're thinking that is the dumbest idea ever, but ponder it.
Can we have an Obama-Chuckin too?
Just the other day their website was showing a location near Bridgeville. What changed?
The Monster Mile is an oval; they've had pumpkins traveling farther than the length of the oval (not the distance of a lap).
9:43-I hope people driving on the bypass don't have pumpkins landing on their cars.
I remember when it was supposed to move to a farm near hebron, but guess who stopped that? Wicomico county commissioners. Smart move. Big crowds bring big money. We certainly wouldn't want that would we.
There is no way it will ever be held on assateague. That is federal land. There would be so many rules, regulations, enviornmental studies, and fees, and law enforcement like you wouldn't believe.
Ocean City beach!! What an off season attraction that would be.
