Certainly doesn't make good for a campaign reelection platform does it. At any level, Federal, State, and/or Local. You watch though, the incumbents will try and spin the blame on someone else. I agree with Joe's 7:35 Posting, it is to late to salvage the economy between now and the election. To many years of irreparable harm to turn it around now. I personally will not be voting for Conway, Ireton, or Pollitt. If they couldn't do any better than the empirical evidence shows, then they are the problem.
I hope all of our citizens are reading this latest information. This is exactly why I use Salisbury News as my go to source because they tell it like it is. Instead of trying to make-up the News, Salisbury News reports it. This tells a very powerful story.

I remember most all of these businesses. Where did you get this list? This information needs to go the National media like FOX or CNBC or ABC. When you see this kind of stuff it really opens your eyes.
I do realty appraisals and Nevada use to be No. 2 a few months ago. Now I see Maryland has moved into the No. 2 slot. And that helps to explain why my foreclosure analysis with the banks have skyrocketed.

After leaving their old jobs/homes/friends and buying overpriced/overhyped properties here, they have their employers lay-off/shut-down/relocate - leaving them stuck here...they walk from their mortgages and the downward spiral gets worse.
I appreciate everyone of those posting additional business closures. SBYnews tries to update this information on a quarterly basis. I'm going to note on our business closure list those businesses that we have missed and will try and perform this function on a bi-monthly.

Some of those listed were mega giant manufacturers. Such notables as Dresser, Crown, Campbell's, Airpax. What a shame to see this happening right here at home. I firmly believe that America is on the decline and our leaders have helped to pillage our citizens.

This should have been done YEARS ago. I proposed traveling all over the state to encourage businesses and industry to relocate to the Eastern Shore. Guess what, these idiots are still sitting back waiting for businesses to fall into their laps.

No doubt the economy is bad. And the list shows that there are more than 100 fatalities to prove it. So where is the job generation, I'll tell you, it's the con artist, pick pockets, hookers, drug dealers, and pilfers. That is Salisbury's job base.
And nobody around here really wants to work like I did from the age of 16 to present. Dishwasher, retail cashier at Camelot Music, Tuerkes & Beckers, Tony Tank Inn dishwasher, Lifeguard at Leonard Mill and Schumaker Ponds, etc, etc... Been here since '67 and I've never seen it so bad. It's a crying shame !!

Responding to 8:30 Posting - I'll bet you that if it weren't for media's posting info like the one cited in this example that Pollitt's administration would attempt to try and alter these stats. But once he tries to skew the statistics, then SBYnews (free media) comes back and actually cites real live information - how could anyone refute them. Heck, everyone knows that Dresser was once on College Ave., and Crown was on Rt. 13 South, and
Bayliner was on Naylor RD. etc.

You know how Detroit is nationally reknown for being the 'Decay of America'. In my honest opinion you can now pin Wicomico as topping that List.

You need to add Hollywood Tans to this list. It used to be behind Target in the area of Outback Steakhouse. It went out of business in October or November and didn't tell anyone. I had an unlimited tanning package that I paid for till the end of December and they didn't let me know or give me a refund. Talk about being pissed.
Sperry Van Ness has signs plastered all around Salisbury saying; AVAILABLE, FOR LEASE, SALE. You can go throughout Salisbury and see multitudes of vacant retail spaces. Eastern Shore Drive, RT.13 N, RT.13 S, Waverly Dr, Beaglin Parkway. Today I even saw a sign in front of Parkside advertising Free Rent. Beats anything I have ever witnessed and I've lived here over 60 years.
To be fair and balanced, The list of closures you have here goes back pretty far and some of these 'closures' have become other businesses.
The problem is that there is no manufacturing base. Most all of the jobs are retail and/or Food Services. When manufacturing left, it left such an economic void that it practically ruined everything, real estate, salaries, schools, increased crime and poverty. What a terrible mess.
Is it really a 'terrible mess'? Or is it an opportunity?
It's no different than many other small towns in America.
What can be different is how we respond to it. What we do.

I think on the whole we will all agree, there is definitely a problem particularly in Wicomico County. If we can't retain even 1 private sector industry, then this is a serious problem.
Here is an idea. Form a group of everyone on here complaining about the lack of manufacturing jobs and develop a business plan for a company. Pool your talents, business experience and assets together. Ask Joe to advise the group and provide contacts in the business community to assist in the start up. I'm not talking about a franchise/restaurant/retail store but rather a real business that will provide jobs to local workers. Who else but you the local people would know best what businesses would work and thrive.
No business is going to relocate to the shore. Why would they? Hi taxes?, no progress, poorly run towns and counties, and the list goes on and on. You couldn't pay a good company to come to the shore. The local people on the shore are one of the problems as they just don't see past their noses. Its way to late for a quick fix and things will get a lot worse as time goes on.
Don't forget Navtrak on northwood dr/naylor mill. They closed July 2012 with about 150 employees.

First thing, our residents need to equip a paramilitary unit to keep away the regulators. And yes - this is serious stuff! Between the EPA, MOSHA, OSHA, US Fish & Wildlife, etc., why in the world would a business want to lay a nest in such an environment.
And there lies your answer. If at the Blackduck Refuge area we have banned all hunting in order to increase the numbers of Waterfoul, the same scenario applies to Businesses.
Now get off your dufts and patronize the businesses that still exist.Quit spending your every moment trying to think of more that have shut down already.See there,problem solved.
