SMITH ISLANDERS ANGERED BY STATE ACTION

SMITH ISLAND – For Maryland native Cindy Bradshaw, home is Smith Island, a speck of land resting in the Chesapeake Bay.

But according to Bradshaw, home will have no place in Maryland’s future if state policymakers have their way.

“I would ask them ‘Why don’t they feel ashamed of themselves,’” Bradshaw said. “I really would because don’t we matter enough, and if not, why?”

Sounds like a poor decision to buy land there for a home. So how's that the tax payers problem?

This should be treated no differently than the beach replenishment projects. It's a sand island, and has been sinking for years, and needs a boost to keep it alive.

And don't tell me the water level in the bay is rising and isn't doing so anywhere else! What a load of, well, poppycock! Has anyone out there seen a glass of water with the waterline higher on one side than the other? Didn't think so...

I think they have a good case for a lawsuit against the state. They are being singled out because of where they live how many homes are destroyed each year because they were built to close to inland rivers. Yet once the flooded river subsides they build fight back on the same land
