Obama Signs Bill To Pay Military Death Benefits

Families of fallen troops will be assured of receiving death benefits under legislation President Barack Obama signed Thursday amid a national firestorm after the Pentagon suspended the roughly $100,000 payments during the partial government shutdown.

Obama signed the bill into law after it won final passage in the Senate earlier in the day.

But his chief spokesman, Jay Carney, had said the measure was unnecessary because a military charity had stepped in to continue the payments. Carney also had declined to say whether Obama would sign the bill, which reinstates benefits for surviving family members, including funeral and burial expenses, and death gratuity payments.

Thank God for the Fisher House for stepping up to help our fallen heroes. Obama can rot in Hell for what he has done.

"Jay Carney, had said the measure was unnecessary because a military charity had stepped in to continue the payments."
Just goes to show you how arrogant and out of touch these people are.

Got that right, 5:52. It's interesting to note that charity was allowed to step in and provide funding.

But there are many reports of bullying by the Park Service where they blocked off access to private businesses where the Gov't is NOT providing funding at all!

And other examples of Gestapo tactics where they put more time, effort, and cost to the taxpayers in closing something that could have remained open. Like the WWII memorial, or scenic parking areas at places like Mt. Rushmore.

Clearly a double standard exists here!

Ridiculous that the WH was content to let a charity do what it was supposed to for the families of those who lost their lives for our country.

5:52 - spot on....it really was necessary to make the government take care of it's true protectors!
