H2Oi Event Brings Surge In OC Police Calls, Traffic Citations; Mayor: ‘We Have No Control Over It …’

OCEAN CITY – With an increase in police activity linked to participants, Ocean City officials are hoping to create a beneficial partnership with the organizers of the annual Volkswagon and Audi weekend event that comes to Ocean City each September.

H2O International, also referred to as H2Oi, is a two-day VW/Audi rally that was held in the Ocean City area Sept. 28-29 this year. The rally is not a sanctioned event with the Town of Ocean City, but there are organized events in Ocean City as well as in points to the west, including Fort Whaley Campground off Route 50.

This year from Thursday, Sept. 26 through Sunday, Sept. 29, demoflush reported a population of almost 578,000. During that time, the Ocean City Police Department reported a total of 2,207 calls for service between officers and citizens, and between traffic stops, traffic citations, and traffic warnings, there was a total of 1,584 traffic enforcement actions. There were also a total of 14 alcohol citations, 53 total arrests, seven drug arrests, four weapon arrests and seven DUI arrests.

This whole demoflush thing is a bunch of crap. No way in the WORLD that OC is seeing these kinds of crowds. 578,000? Give me a break.

Ocean City tries to act concerned when in reality they welcome any group that they can make money off of. We welcome with open arms the June bugs, bikers, classic cars, VW's and the like so they can spend money and then the police can ticket and/or arrest as another revenue source. Also it justifies having so many paid police.

Yes it does justify the NEED for police in Ocean City. Every single one is needed and more to deal with these idiots for invade every summer.

The Hotel-Motel-Restaurant Association calls the shots. Harrison Group holds the Aces. Bike Week began as an unsanctioned event too. Ocean City would welcome an Al Qaeda convention if it would guarantee" 300,000 heads in beds". though beer sales wouldn't be too hot...

first, the 578,000 must be a typo....there never has been that many in OC....there's absolutely no way. Second, this H2Oi group is different than ANY other group that comes to OC. They actually come with the intent to cause trouble. They are a bunch of lawless punks and have no respect for anyone. OC town officials must find a way to keep them out.

Only difference between this group and the others is age; the H2O crew is younger that those mostly grey bikers and hotrodders. The OCPD was being way tougher with the H2O attendants than they ever are with the other "highway festival" groups

The problem with h2o is they are in internet car club..... The don't ever know the kind of people who will show up or how many....they aren't all bad but the leadership of this group refuses to try to work with oc and that's wrong.
