Ocean City Plane Crash Victims Identified

OCEAN CITY -- The bodies of the two victims in yesterday’s Ocean City plane crash have been recovered from the wreckage and positively identified.

The victims are identified as Thomas J. Geoghegan Jr., 43, of Ocean City, Md., and Joshua D. Adickes, 27, of Berlin, Md. Both men served as police officers with the Ocean City Police Department. The bodies o...f both victims will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for autopsies.

Police divers from the Maryland State Police and Natural Resources Police worked throughout the morning and early afternoon to recover the bodies from the wreckage of the plane. The plane was about 30 feet below the ocean surface about one-quarter mile off the beach from 130th Street. Divers had to work in zero visibility and rough waters. Divers suspended operations about 1:15 p.m. today due to dangerous conditions caused by an approaching storm front.

The Nanchang CJ-6A aircraft was owned by Geoghegan. State Police investigators believe he was piloting the plane and Adickes was seated behind him in the only other passenger seat on the aircraft. Preliminary information indicates the plane took off from the Ocean City Airport between 3:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. yesterday. The destination is not known at this time.
National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration officials will be investigating the cause of the crash.
