If he called EMS for a heart attack why did they send firefighters on and fire truck? Glad they are safe, but firemen shouldn't be responding on EMS calls.
Some places don't have both at each station. They send FF that are closer and are also trained to handle the call til the paramedics can get there. At least that is what I got from the story I read.

So they don't have "both" at each station? Sounds like mismanagement of funding to me. Firefighters put out fires and EMS treats and transports medical emergencies. How simple is that. If a fire truck isn't busy enough that they have to start chasing ambulances then maybe that is where someone is mismanaging tax dollars. You people just don't get it.
You are truly ignorant and have no clue as to what any fire department does. You're the one who doesn't get it. Go to your fire department and watch what they do in a given day then perhaps you would be somewhat qualified to pass judgement. I doubt you will because it's much easier to sit home and complain than it is to put forth effort to educate yourself. Until you do, perhaps you should moderate your commentary to reflect what you know and not what your obvious ignorance reflects as to what you think you know.
7:23 Some people can be both. Maybe that is how some places actually save money. Does Delaware have paramedics at each and every fire station? Not even here in Maryland do they have a paramedic on duty at every fire station at all times. Some town share paramedics.

Sometimes the ems crew needs help lifting the gurney because the patient may be slightly on the heavy side so they send a fire truck.
