Fact Check

Obama makes questionable claim on Romney's auto bailout stance

In one of the most contentious exchanges of their final debate, President Obama and Mitt Romney clashed over the federal auto bailout of 2008, with the former accusing the latter of not supporting any forms of government assistance to auto companies.

"You were very clear that you would not provide government assistance to the U.S. auto companies, even if they went through bankruptcy," Obama said, going on the offensive. "You said that they could get it in the private marketplace. That wasn't true."

But Romney rejected the claim -- and he's got the op-ed he wrote to back him up.

"Under no circumstances would I do anything other than to help this industry get on its feet," Romney said, "And the idea that has been suggested that I would liquidate the industry, of course not."

Obama is a pathological liar and it's troubling. When he doesn't know something or like something he's heard he just makes something up as he goes along.

I despise this arrogant, pompous ass poor excuse of a president. He has done nothing while in office except decimate us in every area he has touched. He is constantly demeaning and disrespectful to anyone who disagrees with him. Shall we pray the American voters send him and his racist a$$, along with his uppity wife home to the Chicago ghetto in a few weeks. Good riddance!

The Dems have been barking all morning about the line where obama said our military no longer uses horses and bayonets. That got a real good laugh in the uneducated audience. The truth is horses were used by the hundreds when we went into afghanastan. Also, to this day, the marine corps still practices with bayonets and k-bars both fixed and in hand. obozo talked out of his butt again.

Oh I know dogg, they are all jazzy up, high 5-ing it over how clever their boy is. All the while the whole point has zipped right over their heads. First off as you said horses and bayonets are still used, but the whole point was defense cuts. Obama was more or less saying since we are in the technology age defense spending is less which is so far from the truth it ain't funny. All these high tech defense items cost way more than horses and bayonets ever will.

Do we really have ships that go underwater? I always thought ships were suppose to float and submarines went underwater.

Does anyone LISTEN any more? Obama did not say that we don't use horses and bayonets any more. He said we don't have as MANY. This was in response to Romney's statement regarding the amount ships that the U.S. Navy has. No wonder this country is all messed up.
Yeah... that's it! Let's build more Super Carriers! The U.S. only has eleven!!! The next highest count of carriers by other countries.... ONE!

Let's not forget the 200+ F22's that have yet to spend in minute in action. Now, we are building F35's.... Really people?

@227. I understand your point, but why let something like the truth and facts stand in obozos way.

@254. The reason you see a strong China and Russia is that we are considered a weaker United States. Reagan believed in a strong and robust defense and it vaulted us to the number 1 super power in the world. Our word meant something. Obozo has seriuosly weakened our defenses. We need to rebuild our "Big Stick"
