More Money Expected For State Coffers

ANNAPOLIS — The state government could take in $180 million more than anticipated for the current fiscal year, according to new projections.
The Maryland Board of Revenue Estimates predicts the state’s general fund will receive $14.908 billion for fiscal 2013, the government spending year that started July 1, 2012. That’s an increase of $180 million over the last estimate from March.

In fiscal 2014, the state’s general fund is predicted to take in $15.317 billion.
State Comptroller Peter Franchot, who leads the Board of Revenue Estimates, said the increase is largely due to recent tax increases.
