New Castle Man Arrested For 6th Offense DUI

Wilmington, DE- The Delaware State Police have arrested a New Castle man after he was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol for the 6th time.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:51 p.m. last night as a trooper on routine patrol was running radar in the area of New Bridge Road (Rt. 141) and Old Barley Mill Road near Wilmington. The trooper observed a vehicle traveling above the posted speed limit and conducted a traffic stop. The Trooper could immediately smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle. A DUI investigation ensued and Michael A. Taggart was subsequently taken into custody. A search of Taggart’s vehicle yielded (21) Xanax pills, (1) M. Amphet Salts pill, and 16 grams of marijuana.

Taggart was transported back to Troop 1 where a computer check revealed he had five previous DUI convictions (7/12/94, 12/4/95, 7/19/99, 10/1/05 and 7/2/10); this arrest would make #6.

Michael A. Taggart was formally charged with Felony DUI along with Driving While Suspended, Failure to Have Insurance, Speeding, two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Marijuana. Taggart was arraigned at JP11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $34,000 secured bond.
