Md. Governor Pushing Utilities to Work Quickly

Gov. Martin O'Malley says he is pushing utilities to do better than their predictions of restoring power to 90 percent of homes by Friday.

During a conference call Sunday afternoon, about 597,000 state residents were without power, down from nearly a million immediately after the storm.

O'Malley said power had been restored at all power plants and big transmission lines.

The problem is that PEPCO and other utilities want to trim trees so the branches will not fall on power lines during storms. but the tree huggers are fighting tooth and nail to prevent trimming. They reap what they sow.

Actually most of the problems go back to the 70s and 80s when the power companies were given money so they could put all the power underground. The unions had a fit because if the power was underground there would be less jobs for the linemen. Now any new development that is built the builder must put pay to have it put underground. If you notice most of the places that were out of power for a long period of time and their power is still out are the ones that don't have underground utilities.
