I Believe Greg Bassett, Chief Duncan And Mayor Ireton Better Take Another Look Into The Law

“Truth in Caller ID Act” Signed by President Obama

This posting was written by Thomas A. Long, Editor of CCH Privacy Law in Marketing.

A law that amends the Telephone Consumer Protection Act to prohibit the transmission of misleading or inaccurate caller identification information with the intent to defraud, cause harm, or wrongfully obtain anything of value was signed by President Obama on December 22, 2010.

The “Truth in Caller ID Act of 2009” (Public Law No. 111-331, Senate Bill 30) is intended to combat “spoofing,” which occurs when a telephone caller alters the number or other information that appears on a recipient’s caller ID to conceal his or her identity.

Transmissions are exempted if they are made in connection with authorized activities of law enforcement agencies or a court order specifically authorizing the use of caller ID manipulation.

The law calls for the Federal Communications Commission to prescribe implementing regulations no later than six months after enactment.

Further details will appear in an upcoming issue of CCH Privacy Law in Marketing.

Heads need to roll. Joe Carmean is behind this somehow. Its not just one employee at The Daily Times. Keep digging Joe.

You have to wonder, was your wife and grandson in danger when they had you go to meet Jim the next day. Is that why they were telling you to meet him in Salisbury.

JoeAlbero said...

anonymous 8:21, Good question. I hadn't thought of that.

Anonymous said...

Since this is a federal law. It adopted in Maryland yet Chief Duncan has no authority to do anything except make a call to the Feds. Joe push this to go federal more heads will roll

Anonymous said...

Ok...so here we go. This may be a bit bigger than we first imagined. Now the FEDs can be involved. You have probable cause based solely upon the article in the Daily Times.

Under the FCC’s adopted rules:
•Violators are subject to up to $10,000 for each violation, or three times that amount for each day of continuing violation, to a maximum of $1 million for any continuing violation.
•The FCC may assess fines against entities it does not traditionally regulate without first issuing a citation.
•The FCC can impose penalties more readily than it can under other provisions of the Communications Act.

WAAAA what a crybaby!

I believe Sara Lake is behind this and she and Bassett Should both be fired. On the other hand they are using this as a cover up to protect Ireton.

I say get rid of Barbara Duncan, Rick Hoppes and Theresa Gardener. They are nothing more than wannabe's and don't deserve to have the department head positions. Get rid of them now.

JoeAlbero said...

anonymous 8:32, I disagree. However, I'd like to know why you feel that way.

Anonymous said...

8:26 you are nervous. Once the FCC get's involved, subpeona's will be issued and one of two scenario's will unfold. One, they will determine that the call came from the mayors phone and no charges will be filed, or two, all involved will be questioned and they will either plead the 5th or they will give statements that will lead to charges being filed against those involved. Under the first scenario where the call came from the mayors phone, it will be revealed that the mayor is a vindictive, drunken liar. Under the second, ALL of those involved will become known to all and fines will be issued. A fine of that magnitude will probably put the Daily Times out of business. Looks like the mayor and the Daily Times have put Albero in the Cat Bird's seat.

I am still confused as to why the Daily Times would ever print this information. Things are not adding up here.

Anonymous said...

So was this spoofing?

Or did Jim Ireton really make the call.

If he did then he lied to police and that is a crime.

Anonymous said...

Since when does obamie care about the law?

Anonymous said...

Jim's phone records should be made public. They will tell a story of corruption and deceit.

Anonymous said...

Either way it is sickening to see how many liars we have running this town...no wonder Salisbury is going to the birds.

Anonymous said...

They tried to make you look like the fool but I guess the DA's over there didn't think this one all the way through. As Rickie would say " You've got some 'splainin to do!'

If you only knew who they were and how bad it really is, well honestly I don't think most of you could handle the truth. Sorry

Anonymous 9:00am

Spot on! This town as always been the Good Olde Boys running the show. Until we get the Mike Lewis's of the world voted out we are going to have this problem.

F.Robins said...

Why is the Police Chief not acting on this? Is it because Jim is her boss? We need an independent party to look into this.

Anonymous said...

@9:00 AM I can already imagine how bad it is if our Mayor is a known drunk, our local newspaper is a spewing point for his mouth, and on top of that I have known the DT was in decline at least 8 years running now since their coverage of events was horrible. I think we all are ready for the real truth. We have known this was happening for a while.

Anonymous said...

Again, is Ireton's phone city property or paid with taxpayers' money? If so, I'd think the phone records would be accessible as public property.

Anonymous said...

I am a former Daily Times employee. It goes without saying that I am disgruntled, because most DT employees, current and former, are disgruntled. The main reason is due to Greg "Deputy Dawg" (the resemblance is uncanny) Bassett. The words I heard most often about him: weasely, spineless, backstabbing, incompetent, uncaring, boob. I could go on and on, but why bother. In sum, he has few positive personal qualities. The result is a toxic waste dump of a newsroom. This is why so many reporters and editors are fleeing the DT. In addition to Sarah Lake being fired, another reporter is leaving today (for greener pastures), which means more work for the newsroom's growing dependence on unpaid interns and an increase in amateurish reporting and stories. The good news is that Bassett's recent demotion is likely a sign that Gannett is pushing him toward the exit and that the News Journal in Wilmington will take over operations. The Daily Times probably will be turned into the Weekly Times, and eventually the End Times, which, I predict, is just years in the making.

If the Daily Times is so fair and balanced why in the hell didn't they ask all the parties involved? You know two sides to every story. They are a bunch of IDIOTS! Sell your stock now because soon it will not be worth the paper it is printed on!

Anonymous said...

Joe, here's one for you, simply request the Mayors phone bill under the freedom of infomation act, done in OC every month now, that will really blow the top off this. IF you really want the truth.

Anonymous said...

This is only to beginning of things to come.

Anonymous said...

I can't decided on what natural disaster this is the equivalent too. Joe you are blowing these people in power away. I have lived here my entire life and have never seen so many people scared of one man.

Anonymous said...

This was a prank to make Joe look bad and alot of people want Joe to look bad,The DT, Mayor, and guess who will not press charges? Our own Stet's Attorney who hates Joe!

Anonymous said...

I have to question if the police in your city are taking kick-backs or are they just plain ignorant?

Anonymous said...

I say take this to the limits and let the chips fall where they may. You already have that fish on the hook Joe, time to reel it in and see what it really is, truth for a change. Use that for your campaign slogan!

Anonymous said...

Impersonating a public figure is a problem here. Doing so with someone who intends to run for mayor is another problem. Do we know if someone was stalking your home or family when you went to meet the mayor the next day, no one seems to know but it is possible. I know there was talk in the last election where Joe Carmean was following Mr. Ireton around and since the daily times is somehow involved in this situation it makes me wonder what they were up to.

This needs to be investigated. One thing is for sure, Mr. Ireton doesn't stand a chance of being reelected. We have had problems with Tilghman in the past and now we are seeing it with Mr. Ireton. I can't wait to see how this turns out. Does the Times have the ability to hush this up and make it go away.

The drama should end when Joe is elected our new mayor.

Anonymous said...

It's Jim Ireton's number for sure if you can believe the Governor. He posted some stuff back in 2008 listing Ireton's and other numbers. Just google the number and you'll even get his email address.

If someone left a bag of dog doody on Ireton's door step and lit it as a prank, he would be crying to the Chief that he wants them charged with attempted arson. "Oh Mommy, the bullies are picking on me again waaaa."

Anonymous said...

All this drama is the prefect story line for a LifeTime Movie. I vote for Brad Pitt to play the role of Joe Albero!

(^_^)

Anonymous said...

We would need someone rough and ready to play Joe, how about Sheriff Joe in Arizona? When they say sit down, stand up and fight!

Anonymous said...

Again I ask you Albero, to please, please go jump in front of a train. You are the cancer of the eastern shore. I Hate you more than anything in this world.

Anonymous said...

When we will see your side of the story in the paper Joe? Have they called to schedule an interview?

JoeAlbero said...

anonymous 10:21, no, they have not. Nor has anyone else, including the Mayor since the original call nor the Chief of Police.

Really? Hating someone so much is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. Please do us all a favor and find a positive way to use your energy.

Be careful Joe. When people get cornered they will attack. I have a feeling someone is getting ready to lose it.

Did anyone see the coverage of the story on WMDT last night? If you blinked you missed the story. Not once did they mentioned who the phone call was placed too, not once did they mention Joe running for Mayor, not once did they mention Joe. It is hilarious to see politics at it finest. And then we wonder why America is screwed...this is how big a role politics plays in our small community, imagine on a global scale...

JoeAlbero said...

anonymous 10:31, I've been bitch slapped before, its no big deal.

JoeAlbero said...

anonymous 10:34, did you expect anything different from our local MSM?

Anonymous said...

This is why I love this site! It is real and people can say what they want! Great come back Joe!

Anonymous said...

When I think of Jim Ireton I always think of that classic movie line "If I Only Had Brain"!

Anonymous said...

Also on the WMDT coverage, they were explaining "spoofing" and said you can make anyone's name and number pop up. I have seen apps that allow you to choose your name and number for text messages but not phone calls. And during the report they never actually show tha app working they just say "and up pops his wifes name" without showing the phone screen once.

Jonathan Taylor is behind this. I can smell it

Where is the Official Press Release from the Mayor's Office regarding this matter? I demand He respond to these allegation.

Anonymous said...

I couldn't believe Julie Brewington made a comment yesterday on the DT article calling you a stalker. That woman is the town drunk Ottis of Mayberry. I really feel sorry for her kids.

Anonymous said...

To answer you Joe I do expect more from our local MSM and just don't deliver!

JoeAlbero said...

Ladies & Gentlemen, I apologize for the difficulties with comments yesterday and today. You know what, I have been doing this blogging thing for 7 or 8 years now and rarely ever have we had a problem. In fact, I can say that we have not had a problem with comments in at least 3 years. However, no sooner did we put up the Daily Times article yesterday and all of a sudden things went down as we're told again today people are having similar problems. I can only imagine just how many comments never made it yesterday but its whatever.

It's also clear that Jim Ireton and the DT's have put themselves in a jam over this matter. Please be patient with blogger and hopefully things will get back to normal once the DT's articles disappear into the sunset.

I'm thinking Ireton should resign. But I'm also thinking he'll take other people down with him. Its a shame.

Anonymous said...

well, at least we know our chief of police is also a crook, since nothing has been done

silence is golden

I hope Brewington's twins grow up to be just like her, evil

I work at the Daily Times, and I can attest to the fact that Greg Bassett has few friends and fewer who respect him. He is a mess of a human being.

Anonymous said...

This much is clear: Most of the figures in this scandal have drinking problems. Sarah Lake, Jim Ireton, Greg Bassett are all drunkards. Joe Carmean is a serial philanderer. It is quite a cast of characters.

The Daily TImes has earned a pretty bad reputation. Their articles often seem much less than objective when it comes to those who they dislike. I hope that Gannett looks into the way that the paper has treated people like Debbie Campbell and Mark Tilghman. It appears to me to be a violation of any sort of ethical reporting and all of those associated with that sort of a lack of journalism professionalism and integrity must change or go in order for the paper to stand a chance of being a competative choice for news. I think that those atr the Daily Times who have been part of the politics of personal destruction through baseless attacks and "reporting" of things that are not true have done more to damage the reputation of our city than anything else. If what some suspect is true, the problem goes well beyond Bassett and Lake. Gannett owes it to our community to check it out and respond accordingly. If any action needs to be taken, it should be.
