Trayvon Martin Shooting: White House Senior Adviser Calls Santorum, Gingrich Reaction to Obama’s ‘If I had a son’ Comments ‘Reprehensible’

White House senior adviser David Plouffe lashed out on Sunday over a pair of comments by Republican presidential candidates Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum to President Barack Obama's reaction to the Trayvon Martin shooting.

"Those two comments are really irresponsible," Plouffe said on CNN. "I would consider them reprehensible."

"If I had a son he would look like Trayvon," Obama said on Friday.

"Is the president suggesting if it had been a white who had been shot, that would be OK because it wouldn't look like him?" Gingrich said Friday on Sean Hannity's radio show. "That's just nonsense. I mean, dividing this country up, it is a tragedy this young man was shot."

In a separate radio interview Friday, Santorum had a similar reaction.

"What the president of the United States should do is try to bring people together, not use these types of horrible and tragic individual cases to try to drive a wedge in America," Santorum said.

Obama is nothing more than an agitator. He should have kept his mouth shut until he had the facts. The facts are not out yet and I would like to hear all the facts before I come to a conclusion. A good president would not have commented on this.

R U Kidding me! The president spoke as a father, not as a white or a black father but as a father! I am very white in color and when hearing his words I saw a father!
The pathetic republican candidates can divide the country daily over money color heritage and financial level yet they criticize a man speaking as a father! I can barely believe the level of humanity many Americans have sunk to! PLEASE I HOPE YOU BELIEVE IN KHARMA!

This boys color should not make any difference at all. IF the person on watch that night was assaulted & legally defended himself then there is no case. I'm sorry to say but it's the black community that seems to love to play the race card. If you think that's not so, then why was Jessie Jackson & Al Sharpton there to play it up??? If there was no assault then the guy should pay for shooting the teen, if not then it's self defense.

As I said, a GOOD president would not have commented on this. HE is dividing the country. Unbelievable lack of leadership.

The Obama comment was stupid given that he represents everyone in this country, not just blacks. It is irresponsible of him to immediately condemn the Latino that was attacked by Martin without even bothering to listen to any facts.

The purpose of this national news story is to set the stage for gun confiscation. Local murder gets national news coverage for no reason at all.

Bul Crap, let me ask this... If it had been a white kid shot whould this be this big a deal. When are Blacks, going to stop?

We dont now the whole story, if the KKK offered a 10k reward would it be allowed?

In my opinion, there is NO differance between the KKK and "New Black Panthers"

This country is a JOKE!

The approx. number of murders committed in the US on a daily basis is 45. The president should NEVER commment on such issues for the obvious reasons.....because no matter what he says it will be taken wrong by some people. Just another example as to his lack of leadership and experience. Know when to open your mouth and when to just stay above the fray.

Why dont Jesse,Al and president Obama spend more time in DC,St Louis,Detroit, etc where African American men, women and children die every night from shootings?

Everyone seems to forget that Obama had one white parent and one black parent. He doesn't "represent" either side - he's a little bit of both!

It has been reported that Trayvon Martin attacked first. He knocked Zimmerman down with one punch and slammed his head on the curb at least twice. It's also been said he went for Zimmerman's gun.

That's why he got shot. And I suspect that is why no charges or arrests were made.

It's also been reported that Martin's parents have applied for a patent on the phrase's 'Justice for Trayvon' and 'I am Trayvon'.

To be used to sell digital media and things with Trayvon's image on them, such as cd's and shirts.

I am sorry for his parents but from what I understand, no laws were broken by Zimmerman.

I do think he was over-zealous and should not have contacted the boy but that is not illegal either.

He was also legally licensed to carry a gun.

Tragedy, yes. Criminal? No.

The family is now upset that news has been leaked about why Trayvon was at his fathers house. He had been suspended from school for having an empty baggie of pot on him.

12:32 I totally agree. The PRESIDENT spoke as a FATHER. That comment was not racially motivated at all. Truth be told the president is African American and so is his wife, our first lady, so in actuality if they did have a son, he would be the color of SASHA or LELIA. The comment was full of truth from a fathers perspective and an afridan american perspective second. Geez people.

Spoke as a "Father"? Excuse me? If the President were Rubio from Florida, should he be expected to verbally attack blacks? I'm sorry whoever you are but a lot of people like me expect OUR President to act like a professional and leader, not an instigator.

As a Father, I taught my boys not to assault anyone.
