Soldier Suspected in Afghanistan Massacre Likely to be Tried in US, Could Face Death Penalty

The Army staff sergeant being detained in Afghanistan for allegedly killing 16 civilians Sunday, most of them children, likely will stand trial in the U.S., military sources told Fox News -- and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said he could face the death penalty.

The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, is described to Fox News by military sources as an infantry sniper out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state. He suffered traumatic brain injury in 2010 after a vehicle rollover accident in Iraq, though he later was deemed "fit for duty," a senior U.S. official said.

Sources also said the suspect had "family problems," possibly related to trouble in his marriage, before deploying for the fourth time.

Panetta said he may face capital charges, and that the U.S. must resist pressure from Washington and Kabul to change course in Afghanistan because of anti-American outrage over the shooting.

Get the US military out of that hell hole of tribal inbreds and back home! Concentrate on keeping the islamic militants out of our own country.

How can a soldier that experiences a major brain injury be cleared the go back to active duty for his four tour in country? A man can only take so much before he cracks.

The guy had also done 4 tours in less than 10 years. He's been under that pressure and killing people so long, he no longer has a value of human life.

Bottom line is there's NO justification for this!
Brain injury and family problems don't matter.
This was murder. He killed 16 and you can bet they'll set out to kill 1600 in retaliation!
Get our soldiers out of the Middle East! All we're doing is continuing to piss these people off!

Well duh. A tour is one year.

And just think folks, when most of these guys come home, they put on a cops uniform.

How does that make you sleep at night?
