'Pink Slime' is Good for America's Schoolchildren, Manufacturers Claim

The company that sells ground beef treated with ammonia proclaims their meat mixture is good for America's schoolchildren, even though parents across the country are seriously questioning the safety of what has been dubbed "pink slime."

Beef Products Inc. (BPI) made the declaration about its "lean finely textured beef" or LFTB over the weekend to The Daily, which broke the news that the federal government plans to buy ground beef that contains 7 million pounds of the product in the coming year. After the report, "pink slime" became the most searched topic on the internet.

"Including LFTB in the national school lunch program's beef products accomplishes three important goals on behalf of 32 million kids," BPI spokesman Rich Jochum said. "It 1) improves the nutritional profile, 2) increases the safety of the products and 3) meets the budget parameters that allow the school lunch program to feed kids nationwide every day."

Now that the beef industry has been caught they will say anything to keep on making the big bucks. It's all about the $$ and not peoples health. The government condones the use of anything the meat industry wants to feed us. Walk in a slaughter house and you might rethink meat altogether. They even allow a percentage of feces in our food. I think pink slime and pink paste both need to come out of food and the meat industry needs to do alot of work to clean up their act.

Pink slime also comes from chicken plants and made into hot dogs.

Think of that next time you're at the ballpark.

Do they charge the beef price for the pink slime? 7 million pounds of slime at ground beef prices? if people could see what goes on in slaughter houses, not just for beef, but for pork, too, they would consider vegetarianism. These animals are beaten, confined, tortured, injected with chemicals (hormones and antibiotics), held in conditions that would amke many people puke on the spot. The processing of the meat is just as bad. Contaminated products mixed in with the regular meat, dirty machines and dirty employees. Profit, not safety or hygiene, is the all-important goal. And the government inspectors? Falsifying reports and conditions, taking bribes to look the other way, often not even there when they are supposed to be there. "Pink Slime" is the LEAST of the issues with our meat production facilities.

Anyone who eats scrapple should not talk

Yeah, what Anon 6:50 said. The only difference in scrapple and pink slime is the color. Scrapple is the foundation of a healthy breakfast, ergo a healthy diet. Pink slime is just as healthy.

Everyone know what they are getting when they eat scrapple. I bet noy many people know when they bite into that burger they just grilled that they are eating what used to be called slaughter house waste and only used in dog food.
