County officials see rise in property taxes
Local leaders in Maryland say a proposed state mandate on local education funding goes too far in dictating the fiscal decisions made by county governments.
A budget package approved last week by the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee would toughen a state law that already requires counties to match or increase their education funding from year to year. The law has been criticized by county officials in recent years as untenable.

"Counties that violate the law are penalized in the next fiscal year, receiving flat state education funding rather than a scheduled increase."
Well, there's your problem right there, Vern! While jobs and income are getting cut statewide (private sector), Spending on schools is "scheduled" to go up every year! Who made that deal? Why, it's P.G., Montgomery, and Baltimore counties, of course! They run the whole state. Every other county in the entire State of Maryland could vote against something, and the vote would pass anyway. Those Bozos made that deal, and they can just find a way to pay for it or change it. Don't look at us, we said no a long time ago. Go talk to your Union buddies and plead with them.
