MEDIA ADVISORY FOR BALTIMORE MEDIA: MSP BOOST AWARENESS OF MARYLANDS MOVE OVER LAW

(Pikesville, MD) – Two recent separate incidents resulting in injuries of law enforcement officers show the need for more public awareness of Maryland’s ‘Move Over’ law.

Today, State Police Superintendent Marcus L. Brown and M. Kent Krabbe, Executive Director of the Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund (MAIF), will be joined by Howard County Police Chief and President of the Maryland Chiefs of Police Association, Chief William McMahon, Baltimore County Police Chief James Johnson, members of the Maryland Transportation Authority Police, Lieutenant Scott Goldstein, of the Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company and other emergency service providers, to reiterate the importance of Maryland’s ‘Move Over’ law.

As part of this effort to increase awareness of the law, officials will unveil a new decal, provided by the Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund (MAIF), to be displayed on public safety vehicles. Examples of these vehicles will be on display to include police patrol cars, fire apparatus, including an ambulance and a heavy rescue squad from Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company and CHART trucks from the Maryland State Highway Administration. The decal will be a reminder to motorists to move over when these emergency vehicles are working on the side of the road.
