PUT ME IN CHARGE . . .

Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal legations. Then, we'll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, or smoke, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your "home" will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the "common good.."

Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules. Before you say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self esteem," consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone else's money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

AND While you are on Gov't subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes, that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov't welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.

Get a job. Get a job. Get a job.

Where? Where? Where?

Some people just don't get it.

Need to add that one may not operate a blog also!

My sentiments exactly!

I really like this post. @10:45 there are jobs. If you can't get one now, get an education, better yourself and then get one. There is aid out there to help people who can't afford to send themselves to school. I did it. Others can too.

I used to feel this way until my husband lost his job and i was giving a salary reduction. Now i see most people who think this way are Racist thinking its mostly the blacks but today its me a white family who used to make $120,000 last year i made $60,000 this year we made $34,000 so no i dont agree with this and the person who wrote it wrote it about blacks mostly who else drives cars with big rims on welfare

"If you want our money, accept our rules."

lol, isn't this the same justification for the current debate regarding catholic hospitals providing contraception?

I just have one thing to change. Instead of putting all the women on Norplant, why not just castrate all the men? I'm sure it can be reversed if he ever gets a job. Yeah, sure this was written by a woman.

The one that wrote this needs to grow up. She knows nothing of the real world yet. Probably still living off rich republican dads money and spouting his rhetoric. There are plenty of good people receiving public assistance. There are not alot of jobs available right now. I have never seen as much bigotry from people as I have seen on the eastern shore in all my life. It must be nice to be such perfect people that have never had a problem. Seems to me you all have an awful lot of time to sit around bashing others. You know karma usually wins and in all your nastiness it will be coming for you and then you can stand in soup kitchen lines and get food stamps. And everyone does and should have the right to vote. You all talk about Obama being a dictator what is it you call yourselves.

I agree 100% with this POST. I am tired of working and supporting those who do not work and wont work.
We live in the United States of America and if you WANT a job it is there. It may not be what you want BUT you have got to start somewhere
You who had a job at $120,000 start over the opportunity is there. It may not be what you are use to but you can make it..get a backbone.

These programs are a safety net for working Americans, not a way of life for promiscuous women to support their kids.I have used assistance before and this article did not offend me one bit.
I would not know how to act if I did not have to pay rent,so I cannot understand why government housing is so slummy.looks like people would appreciate it but they do not.

HA HA HA HA! Guess you haven't taken a look at the labor numbers lately hah? Looks like those historic Bush tax cuts were exactly the thing to creat massive job creation. lol

Sherry, since you know everything, would you mind telling me how my friend who recently moved back to the area had a job within two weeks of moving back?? How are there no jobs? The problem isn't that there are no jobs. The problem is that people aren't willing to accept lower paying jobs during these hard times. People also don't reduce their spending and expect to live the same lifestyle with less money. So I believe what this person was talking about, and what I believe is that people need to take responsibility for themselves and stop expecting handouts. Why do people no longer have pride in providing for themselves and their family??

AWESOME Post!!! All I can say is AMEN!!

11:49 I couldn't agree more. The place where my husband works has to hire people from a temp agency, because nobody wants to work there. Yeah it stinks and is hotter than hell in the summer but it's a job with benefits might I add. Most people rather walk around crying the blues saying "I can't get a job" Trust me there is work out there you just have to be willing to lower your standards a bit. A small paycheck is better than no paycheck at all.

Anonymous said...

And let's throw out all inconvenient things, like the Constitution, while we are at it!

Dumb.

In reply to 8:49. I never said I know everything but what I do know is many many Americans have lost their jobs and homes through no fault of their own and need the help of public Assitance. Welfare is something that needs to be looked at on a case to case basis. I agree there are some bad people that abuse this system but people seem to have a way of lumping everyone together and judging everyone that has ever needed help. As for the people that do this I can only hope the day will come when you need help and you are handed a bag of beans and told you can't vote. At least I have the guts to use my name.

I can't believe all these people who say there are jobs. Even low paying jobs. I don't believe it.

And who are these people saying there are jobs? And why are they on a blog in the middle of the day and not at a job?

People living in a fantasy world. And you can get all the education you want and there is still no guarantee you will find work.

How many with master's and such out of work? Joe runs a free service for people to list jobs? He is to be commended for that. But how many jobs do you see listed? How many in the paper? How many on the internet?

Where are all these places of employment that you say are hiring? I don't think you have a clue what the real world is like.

You just hate a certain group and will say whatever you think will justify that hate.

Prove me wrong. Shout out where jobs are.

I love how people receive food stamps to provide food for their families but can afford to pay for cable, internet and cell phones. Why not get rid of these luxuries and you can afford to buy your own food and quit relying on the taxpayer to do it for you.

12:16 - Since when did the Constitution guarantee the right to sponge off the system which is funded by the working class who pay their taxes?

12:14 - This would all change when it pays more to "lower your standards" for ANY job versus getting paid more to sit on your lazy a$$!

I couldn't agree MORE with this post!

Taxpayers pay for Congress and they don't work either. Really, what have they accomplished lately? Let's drug test them and take away their voting rights as well.

12:49 Job Monster site has 106 help wanteds for the Salisbury area. 121 for the Pocomoke area including Wallops Island and Somerset and some in Salisbury (which are probably repeats) but the point is jobs are out there. I also know of someone who to so long ago moved here from Baltimore who instantly got a job at the Salisbury airport. Could it be this person has a 20+ year history of an excellent work ethic?

Anonymous said...

It is common knowledge that so many immigrants to this area end up working in chicken plants. Many of these people had professional-level jobs in their country but came here to live in "the land of plenty." Our own people, with some exceptions, do not want to work in the chicken plants. They are unpleasant to be sure. Yes, there are jobs available.

12:49-There are no jobs for people! Go to Salisbury Universtiy's website, and go to the Human Resources page, look at all job openings and then come back on here and dare to say there are no jobs. After Salisbury U then check out PRMC site and the jobs available and I bet Perdue got some postions open also.
If you want to work there are jobs-Bottom LINE!

You think there are only 106 unemployed?

But thanks for your effort. I've never been on welfare so I don't really know how it all works. And I'm sure there are some who cheat the system.

But I don't think the vast majority do or do drugs. The numbers just aren't there. At least I can't find them.

I just did a quick search and I was surprised just how much is paid out for social programs, not just welfare.

I figured it was a good chunk of change but it was more than I imagined.

Maybe I'm just naive since I didn't think the costs or the people were that bad.

Thanks for the polite conversation. I need to withdraw and re-think and research this some more.

I'm glad your friend was able to find a job. And yes, I'm sure his work ethic played a major role.

Have a nice day and I'm sure we will talk on here again some day. Peace.

12:49, whats funny is that in the next breadth, this same crowd will scream about how Obama the evil socialist has destroyed all the jobs. go figure

Anonymous said...

1:58 PM

Well along with being naive I am also confused. Millions of people are out of work in this country. Unemployment is 8 point something percent.

But people say there are jobs. There may be a few here and there but obviously not enough to lower the percentage any significant degree.

I don't believe in absolutes nor do I think there is any ONE fix to any problem.

We are just in bad shape all around. Even accounting for the 'lazy' ones that don't want to work, there is still not enough employment to go around.

If there was the percentage would not be that high. I can't believe there are that many people unwilling to work.

Anonymous said...

Obama didn't destroy all the jobs, but destoys people's incentives to work, like going hungry for awhile by handing out foodstamps like there is no tomorrow. It's his way of getting people to vote for him since no one in their right mind would vote for him otherwise.

Anonymous said...

Recently someone asked me for some credit at my small business. When I asked if they were working the person replied "yes my unemployment was just approved,I have guaranteed income for 2 years."There are many people that have fallen on hard times that deserve the help as there are many that will milk until the nipple runs dry.

Sherry, please don't take a lot of brave credit for having the "guts to use your name"....lol....there are at least 3,000 "sherry"'s in the immediate area. And taking away the right to vote because you've lost your job and need assistance? How about someone who wanted to vote for a person with better ideas about the economy? No go for him, huh? Perhaps you missed the list of local businesses that Joe posted that have closed in the area. I KNOW you think it was the workers fault and NOT the idea of a multi-millionaire CEO who could get a 3 million dollar bonus for shipping those jobs to Mexico. Jesus. I wonder what world some people are living in....

for those of you who whine and complain about NO JOBS; get off your duff and TRY everyday. that is your job for at least 40 hrs. a week. get up, get dressed and get out the door. stay out there everyday until you get your job.

there are jobs out there. a job is not going to be handed to you. if you continue to think this way you are a lazy loser.

Anonymous said...

2:18 ehhhhh, try again. We saw more people go onto the food stamp roles under Bush. And why do you guys seem to think that despite the collapse of the stock market and plunge of housing WAAAAYY before the man came into office, a rise in WIC participation (or atleast eligibility) would not have happened under any president? 4million jobs crushed before 2009 and you think these people weren't going to look for some type of public assistance to get by?

Anonymous said...

Yoo hoo, Sherry--of top 20 wealthiest in the country 75% are Democrat. There are oodles and oodles of "rich Democrat parents" as well!!! Just ask the OWS about their parents, most are liberal Dems, just like YOU

Anonymous said...

I think it is a great idea. Im tired of people abusing the system. If you are living in a house you pay no rent for you should be happy about that and NOT just want more. This is also NOT your property so keep it clean and tidy and don't abuse the rules. If you are collecting food stamps don't pile all your food onto the counter at the store then pull out cash so you can pay for your movies, beer, cigs or anything else like that. If you have money for those things pay for your own food.
How many people have been forced to leave their family during the week to go across the bridge and work. Yes it's not fun and it makes for a long day driving back and forth but it gets the bills paid. There are jobs out there. It maybe not be what you want but again it pays the bills. The biggest problem is the system is not set up to help those that actually need it. It's set up that if you do nothing you can get more. If you don't work you can get reduced housing cost, free food, cell phones, medical care, and there are a ton of others things you get for free since you have no income. How about we help those that are actually TRYING. The person that is working 2 jobs but still just doesn't have enough to put food on the table. Help the ones that are trying to help themselves. The people that are not working are the ones that will give you 100 reasons why they can't find a job. Those that are working are the ones that kept at it until they found something rather it paid more or not. Enough of the free hand outs. Im sick of paying your way.

How many jobs were sent to other countries. I think it was Clinton that allowed that to happen.

Anonymous said...

3:08, You try again and start by checking your facts instead of listening to Obama who only knows how to blame it on Bush. 14.7 million enrolled for food stamps under Bush's 8 years. So far under Obama's 3 years 14.2 million have enrolled. If you average it out food stamp usuage has increased 80% under Obama.
But of course Obama being Obama and not man enough to admit anything blames it on Bush because he was so intent on making a name for himself with Obama care that he let the economy really go to hell.

Sherry, don't you know that jobs are created by "rich republican dads". You ask us not to judge people on public assistance yet you judge people that have money.

I'm down with the idea if we also state that all employees of any agency or contractor who receives federal funding also be forced to take drug tests and relinquish their right to vote. Heck, let's say the same about any person who takes one dime of federal tax money (all politicians, federal employees, military, etc.)

I've seem so many comments that are very troublesome. I love how everyone seems to play the blame game on a political party for everything. I have a Master's degree and acquired it while being helped by the system at times. I have plenty of college loans to pay for but yes I received assistance with housing. Living in a small apartment with many other single moms who are busting their butts to provide for their children. I can give you plenty of stories of women who lost their family support and can't get help anywhere else. Their only relatives had left this world. They busted their butt trying to take classes at night and work during the day, while raising a child on their own. They constantly give with no one to give them any love in return. Women in these situations where little girls who were raped by their uncles, beaten by their dads or never shown they deserved to be loved and treated with respect. Their mothers where also assaulted and buried their shame but taught the children how a woman should be treated in every wrong way. These single moms who felt they deserved to be used by men are raising children trying to give them what they didn't get. With one bad blow of life can destroy everything they have worked for. They lose their job, have a health issue themselves or their child has a serious health issue. Their one anchor their best friend dies by being hit by a drunk driver. Their boss comes up behind them and feels up on their boobs. They slip on a step and mess their knee up and need surgery with six months of rehab. But because they were working part-time to be a college student and mom their life is crashing around them. That delicate balance they were working on, a tight rope walk to achieve, snaps. The people you are judging and bashing are "humans" that are tying to survive, be a positive influence in their children's lives and learn. So instead of judging try to find out their story and then thank God you didn't have as many challenges in your life. This earth was created to be a place for learning but every soul still needs love and to be respected. I can tell you they don't get the warm and fuzzy feeling in having to ask the government for help. It's a crush to their soul and confirms the belief they were raised with, that they aren't worth living a good life. They don't dream of a better life because no one showed them how. Instead of bashing them how about supporting therapy for anyone who needs help. They don't need to be made to feel worse, they need to feel like they deserve more. I really hope no ones stomps on you through the hardest moments in your life but karma does come back. These women will eventually make it and be the ones helping you without judgement or your child when they are going through their hard times. I don't know everyone in the system of course but honestly can say I've listen to the stories of many who are or have been, can you?

Sorry, I don't believe this was written by a 21 yr old. The wording is not correct for her age, and more like one of the Self Professed Idiots on here.
Although I agree with many of the things written by the "21yr old", I don't agree with everything, and if that person was unemployed (even upper middle class are being affected)there opinion would be different. Yea, even sounds like a upper middle to higher class person wrote this.

Imclain I think you have read my post wrong. I think everyone should have the right to vote. I know how many businesses have gone overseas and I think these big corporations should be penalized for this. I don't blame the people that lost jobs. What I said is many people need help now. Please reread what I wrote. Thanks Sherry

I got laid off three years ago at age 55. I have no retirement saved; the construction industry did not supply a whols lot of money for anything but food, housing, and a healthcare policy. I raised my 3 kids alone, as my ex wife decided to take an exit a dozen years ago. I knew no one would be hiring in this economy because all my acquaintances in construction were losing their jobs, too. I picked up my old contractors license, went to the local college and was able to pick up another related license. I now run 2 businesses, have three employees that have been laid off for the last ten weeks! There are so few jobs on the bid board, they are going for bare cost or less. I have barely made $1200/ month for the last year and still need food stamps to get through to the next job. Of course, Unemployment ran out for me a year and a half ago. Since I no longer collect or qualify, I am no longer counted among the 8.3 imaginary percent of unemployed out here. Am I working? Every demned day 12 hours! I've got estimates to do, then it's door to door. Calling people. The ones still working are afraid of losing their jobs and are sitting tight. The underemployed don't have home improvement money, and the unemployed have less than that!
So take your "Get a Job" attitude and shove it, honey! Go dance at the titty bar for all I care; that way I won't have to talk to you any more.

I think the young lady hears the liberal media in a reelection year saying employment numbers have suddenly began to rize. If you believe that then her statements do make some sense. but not comon sense only believeing what is being fed to you. There are not a great number of jobs yet and wall street cant keep up the fasad for the libs for long. Lesson here don't believe anything you can't prove in an election year. obama and the press will tell you what the want you to believe to keep the power slot.

A long time ago, there was an earnest plea from a "FAMILY with Lymes Disease." Most of the material contained in the family's blog appealing for help is contained in the "Put me in charge" e-mails. As the multitude of comments about this e-mail attest, this 21 year old female either "has a great plan!" or has been bashed around for that plan and it's solutions. This lady's opinion ONLY agrees with a newspaper article in the Waco Tribune-Herald.

The author of this opinion letter, not a real plan with real solutions, has already identified himself as Alfred W. Evans in his letter to the Waco Tribune-Herald and is also posted in this discussion. He also wrote to TheVeteransVoice.com and SILENCEDOGOOD2010'S BLOG, which was reposted on BlackShards, and thanked them for posting his letter. "I googled “Put me in charge” and found it on many sites. Thanks again for getting what I consider common sense out to the people." This 21 year old female is receiving credit for your plan and your solution, Mr. Evans. Most of the heat and derogatory remarks are directed toward her and not to you, Mr. Evans. Do you care that this is happening? Why do you allow this to continue on this way? Better her than you? Some military operations use intelligence and deception to accomplish their mission. Food for thought. More on this further down below.
