So What Would Really Happen If Ron Paul Were As Elected President?

President Paul would immediately push for $1 trillion cut in federal spending (per year, not the $3 trillion that Democrats proposed over 10 years with half of that from increased taxes).

President Paul would have the authority as commander-and-chief to withdraw troops from overseas, within limits of treaty commitments which must be honored (US supplies defense for Saudi Arabia, many other nations). To the extent possible, the US would cease being the world's policeman and plunderer of foreign economies (Iraq, Libya). The US would cease being a war economy. President Paul would also push to eradicate foreign aid which essentially is bribery, often to foreign despots who the US quietly supports because they hold a strong hand over their masses.

President Paul would have some empty chairs in his Cabinet - the Department of Commerce, Department of Education and other Cabinet positions would be eliminated. Civil service employees would be ushered into other government jobs.

Sounds like a good place to start.

People seem to forget that a candidate can promise anything he or she wants, but Congress holds the purse strings and makes the laws. The candidate can promise to cut or raise taxes or make a law about anything but really only has the power to propose those actions. Except for his power as Commander in Chief and his general power of persuasion, the President isn't all that powerful.

I say hurry up and elect him while he still knows everything.Being elected president seems to cause amnesia, where they totally forget campaign promises.Get him in there so he can hit the ground running.

I agree, Prez Paul would be a great start. Getting away from aggression and wars and turning back to love and peace. We would need to clean house in the other branches of government as well. This change is bigger then politics.

Wow, wouldn't that be a breath of fresh air... Let's go for this... If we turn out not liking it we could always vote in a liberal Dem next time around.

He looks better to me everytime he speaks. Of the three front runners, he is the only one who represents anything but more of the same old politics as usual.

There is no way he'll get elected because he is the most logical candidate!

6:17...it seems that Congress AND the President both have forgotten "the law". Especially --- ESPECIALLY --- the Constitution itself (how about the one that says ONLY congress can declare war). Among MANY others.

6:17 you beat me to the point. I think President Paul would have a difficult time with Congress (don't forget it's the Republican party that is leading the charge against his candicacy at the momement... and I don't see the Democrats being any more cooperative than Repubs are with Dem president) and would be limited to those powers held exclusively by the Executive Branch. Which is to say, he can still accomplish quite a bit.

in recent times i've read articles and comments about the war machine. My hope is that those who profit from keeping US troops all over the planet don't find a way to prevent them from coming home. Is'nt it a shame that money is the controlling factor.

He'd have a stroke for being a pent up bitter old out of touch man suddenly confronted with the REALITY of global commerce and economics way beyond his stamp licking comprehension of free trade
