O'Malley: Expect Tax Hikes In 2012

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Taxes will be on the agenda in 2012, including a hike in the state's gas tax, Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley announced Thursday at his year-end press conference reflecting on the past year.

The governor outlined his agenda for the year ahead less than two weeks before the 2012 Session of the Maryland General Assembly begins.

In addition to $6.8 billion in spending cuts to the budget, the governor is bracing residents for higher taxes.

O'Malley said some of the state's shortfall areas include its operating budget and infrastructure -- including bridges and roads, mass transit and the environment.

"You get what you pay for. There's no way to build a $100 million bridge for $10 million," O'Malley said. "(This is) a budget that uses an approach that every family has been using to weather or come through this recession. It will be a budget that meets spending affordability guidelines for the sixth consecutive year while protecting shared priorities of every Marylander."

There is no way that Maryland has regained 43% of the jobs lost in the recession of 2005.

I can catagorically guarantee you that Maryland has not regained anywhere near the amount of jobs that O'Malley has touted.

How do I know - because SBYnews has been keeping score.

SBYNews is going to be publishing this list again - very soon - along with the number of displaced workers.

And since these idiot politicians cant balance a checkbook they all need to be fired immediately. Plus all future politicians need to take a 50% pay cut because they make way to much money making stupid spending decisions the way that they do. And all future politicians should lose their pay when they lose their seat. No more getting paid your salary plus cost of living increases and health insurance for life.

Bah, humbug! O'Malley hasn't made any recoveries to anything 43% recovery That is a joke is he sure it isn't job lost and 6.8 billion dollar spending cuts, How much they get isn't enough who does the budget for spending a monkey with a calculator or something because if they cut unneeded things out then they would have more than enough. I found that O'Malley has rise taxes and fees so much he cause most of the job losts him self.

Yep, raise taxes just to give back to a few. Seems like a great idea. In the end, everyone will be the needy, then who pays the taxes?

"...the shared priorities of every Marylander." I can say with total clarity that I DON'T "share" HIS priorities. That's part of the problem....being wealthy, he doesn't understand (or give a damn) about those extra dollars he is so anxious to take from us. QUIT SPENDING. Especially money you don't have. Especially. I say, put them in prison for financial mismanagement and other fidicuary crimes against "we, the people".
