The government will pay more than $17 million to a family that lost four of its members in a military jet crash. The mother, two children and a grandmother were killed when a Marine Corps jet crashed into their San Diego home in 2008. The Marine Corps says the its engine failed but a series of bad decisions led the student pilot to bypass a potentially safe landing at a Navy base. He was able to eject in time.
The military disciplined 13 members of the Marines and the Navy for the errors.

Is that any worse than the outrageous amounts the survivors received when the twin towers were hit? Even then some of them said it wasn't enough.
What Is Your Life Worth?
anonymous 6:08, it varies but let me say this. NO LIFE is worth more than $1,000,000.00.
it's pain & suffering that can't be priced.
I bet the lawyers are getting the lions share of that award
This accident wasn't just a fluke. It was the result of negligence and people not doing their jobs. An accident is one thing, but losing your entire family because someone didn't feel like doing their job properly is disgraceful.
I would love to think the family was impoverished.More often than not the folks who come across large sums of money are already comfortable. All of us have seen the big lottery winners who looked like they did'nt need it.Such a shame about the loss of life, but $17,000,000?
